Bangalore, Nov 10: The Konkani Catholic Association of Bangalore (KonCAB) organized ‘Kalanjali 2009’, an annual cultural event, to bring out the talent of the Konkani-speaking Catholic community residing in the metro, on Sunday November 8.
The programme was held at the golden jubilee hall of St Germain’s School and was attended by many members of the community. The programme started with a prayer song by the KonCAB choir.
KonCAB president Nerry D’Silva inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp. The group events were co-ordinated by 15 units functioning across the metro, under the umbrella of Konkani Catholic Association (KCA).
It was evident that a lot of effort was put in by the units in preparing the participants for various competitions in dancing, acting, singing, and also in designing the costumes used by the contestants.
Joe W Lobo, a prominent figure of the Konkani community and also the director of the international office at Christ University, was the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Lobo appreciated the active participation of Konkani community members in various competitions. He hoped that KonCAB would continue organizing such competitions in future.
Children of KonCAB members who excelled in various school and college examinations as well as sports activities were also honoured by Lobo with bouquets, mementos, and cash prizes.
Presidents of 11 units of Konkani community associations were the guests of honour.
The prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions held on the occasion.
