Mangaluru, Mar 6: Even though the police department has been making all out efforts to enforce traffic rules and educate traffic violators, many are habituated to breaking rules with impunity. Rajesh K V, newly posted to Bantwal was traffic sub-inspector, has planned to seek recourse to digital technology to see that the violators do not go Scot free.

Whenever traffic police wait by the roadside to punish the violators, the vehicle riders often hoodwink the police by taking deviations. Forcible action sometimes might give rise to friction. Therefore, Rajesh plans to make use of the CCTV footage from cameras installed in various places and serve notices on the basis of these footages and make the violators cough up fines. The footage effectively helps the police personnel to track triple rides, riding without helmets, over speeding, driving on one-way against the flow etc.

During the first ten days since Rajesh took over as station house officer of traffic, about 40 notices have been served. Traffic police visit the homes of those who show scant respect for the rules, and deliver notices directly to them personally. Rajesh feels that this system will avoid friction with staff during registering of cases. He plans to intensify the operation based on CCTV footage.

He also wants to give video cameras to traffic staff to keep an eye on rule violators. He has requested the people to cooperate with traffic police and to follow traffic rules strictly.

He feels that there is a need to sort out traffic problems in Bantwal taluk and road rules should be followed properly. His intention eventually is to see that the numbers of traffic violation cases are brought down drastically.
