Udupi, Nov 14:
The municipal ground at Ajjarkad was filled with youths seeking selection in the Indian armed forces.

The selection process for various positions has been underway here since Thursday November 11, and youths from undivided Dakshina Kannada, Uttar Kannada, Kodagu, Chikmagalur, Shimoga, Davanagere, Hassan, and Chitradurga districts arrived here.

The selection process for skilled tradesmen such as painters, washermen, barbers, and decorators was completed on Thursday November 12.

“More than 1,000 youths arrived to participate in the selection process, which is indeed a good response”, said selection director Colonel C R Deshpande.

The selection tests for NCC and sportsmen were held on Friday November 13, while those for general duty army personnel will be held on Saturday November 14 and Sunday November 15.  Over 2,000 youths are likely to undergo these tests.

The tests for technical personnel will be held on Monday November 16.

Tahsildar Prasanna has made arrangements for boarding and food for all youths who have arrived to attend the selection drive.  City mayor Gokuldas Nayak is acting as the nodal officer.

Army recruiting officers informed that 400 youths will be selected during the drive as many of the youths are disqualified due to failure in meeting physical requirements.  Nearly 200 recruiters are in town for the selection process.
