Kasargod Violence: UDF Calls for Harthal – Prohibitory Orders in Place

Kasargod, Nov 16: United Democratic Front (UDF) has called for a harthal on Monday November 16 after Sunday’s tension wherein two youth were killed. Tension prevailed in the region after members of the Muslim League allegedly damaged a few BJP and CPM flags while taking out a bike rally as a part of the Muslim League convention.
However, on Monday so far no injuries have been reported. Prohibitory orders are in place and policemen have been deployed. Shops have downed their shutters and public transport has suspended transportation.
It can be recalled here that two persons, Shafique (18), a resident of Kaidakkadu and Mohammed Asher (20), a resident of Arikkadi near Kumble were killed and 13 policemen including Badiyadka station sub-inspector C B Mathew was injured on Sunday.

Kasargod, Nov 15: Two persons were killed and several others including 13 policemen suffered injuries during the Muslim League Convention on Sunday November 15.
The deceased have been identified as Shafique (18), a resident of Kaidakkadu and Mohammed Asher (20), a resident of Arikkadi near Kumble.
While Shafique died after police opened fire, Asher was killed in a stabbing incident. Badiyadka station sub-inspector C B Mathew is one of the injured policemen.
Tension prevailed in the region after members of the Muslim League allegedly damaged a few BJP and CPM flags while taking out a bike rally as a part of the convention.
When irked BJP and CPM activists started quarrelling with the Muslim League members, police intervened and caned them. Then they fired 12 rounds of teargas shells and fired in the air.
As the unruly mob could not be controlled, the police opened fire at the crowd killing Shafique.
Soon afterwards, a mob stabbed Asher in the back as he was about to board a bus to Karandakkad at Kasargod bus stand.
Many miscreants have pelted stones at houses in Amai Colony and a couple of shops at Karandaikkad.
Two police jeeps too have been damaged in the stone pelting incidents. Reserve police have been deployed and senior police officials are camping in the region.
