Udupi, Mar 14: Though the government has passed orders to close shopping malls, theatres, pubs etc in order to control the spread of coronavius, shopping malls in the city are not abiding by the order.

Huge shopping malls like Big Bazaar and City Center are functioning as usual. But the number of customers has reduced considerably. Some people have arrived in the morning itself to the malls in order to take stock of groceries for a week as the government has ordered shut down of one week.

The mall owners are also confused whether they have to close the outlet or not as people are approaching them for essential commodities. When asked they are saying that they have not yet got written orders from the district administration to close down the facility.

When Daijiworld media asked about this with DC of Udupi G Jagadeesha, he said, "Orders are given for malls, theatres and restaurants to be closed for a week."

Speaking to the media, Pradeep Kurdekar, tahsildar of Udupi said that orders have been given to close the malls by afternoon of March 14.

It is disheartening to see an honourable enterprise such as Little Pai is receiving such opinions. I have visited several stores in Manipal and Udupi and have experienced the following distinctions:
    1. The only store that offered seats practising social distancing to their customers. In contrast to all other stores where only marked spaces were provided and some even extended to the road.
    2. Literally no one allowed in the store, while others have allowed everyone into steamy little premises, making it a Petri dish of all kinds of infections.
    3. Customers could send their prepared lists in advance for a next day pick up
    4. Those who came to store without a list was provided with materials to write
    5. Products that were unavailable, alternatives were suggested.
    6. Had received messages of items available
    7. For elderly customers their groceries were loaded to their cars and given priority.

I am a monthly shopper for the last 3 years and I have experienced exceptional Customer delight from Little Pai. We need more of such responsible enterprises that has risen up to the need of the nation.

It is very disheartening to read and learn about the closure of malls, shops & importantly all educational institutions. While the real problem lies in the cleanliness of the place, surrounding market areas& collection of garbage from time to time. Government apathy towards cleanliness is the major problem towards various viruses. If the government can control the sewage, dirty garbage. Then there no need to close educational institutions or places of importance. Hope all the people will work for the betterment of the place.

The DC of Udupi should have issued a written Order for Closure
to Big Bazaar and Reiiance SMART Supermarkets, so that they
in turn could have pasted large NOTICES to the general public.

However, nothing so professional was conducted, and even the
Management of the above two Supermarkets were in doubt, and
people were allowed in until afternoon.

However Little Pai Supermarket was doing roaring business, as
    though it was exempted!

Why can't the DC or the concerned people in authority work
professionally so that people will not be inconvinemced, and can
their daily supplies from alternative sources. Afterall, everything
is for the benefit of the Udupi public in view of this pandemic virus.

What is the logic behind shutting the malls and Shopping Centres? Then why the Buses, Trains & flights still working. We can make Bharath Bandh for a week or a month in the name of Corona.
But some food stalls on the footpath or open areas, urinating in public places all this kind of activities can be avoided. Treatment facility must be kept ready.
But ordering to shut something and allowing to keep open something have no logic.
Some Mosques, Temples and Churches shut the doors for their devotees is not fair.
Corona comes and goes but we cannot let the nation shut.
