Shimoga: KSRTC Bus Tumbles into Canal – Two Die, 18 Injured

Shimoga, Nov 23: In continuance of a series of accidents that have jolted the region, two persons died and 18 were injured, after a bus belonging to Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation tumbled into Kattehole canal near Tarikere on Sunday November 22 morning.

The bus was on its way from Bellary to Dharmastala, when tragedy struck. Devaraju (45) from Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, and Jagadish (58) from Shirahatti were killed in the accident. A total of 21 persons were in the bus when the accident occurred.

The bus plunged into the 30-feet deep canal after its driver lost control over it. Reportedly, the headlights of the bus were not functioning properly, and when the driver was trying to avoid a pothole on the road near Kattehole, the headlights went off suddently, and the driver could not see the canal immediately ahead. The injured were admitted into Tarikere and Shimoga government hospitals. All of them are recovering, sources said.
