Janata Curfew : Over a billion people across country stay indoors

New Delhi, Mar 22 (Agencies) : According to the national media reports, over a billion people across the country are staying in today to counter the threat from the highly contagious COVID-19, a disease spread by the Novel Coronavirus, which has disrupted economies and killed thousands across the world.

PM Modi on March 19th called for the "Janata Curfew" or self-imposed quarantine to break the chain of coronavirus infections, which the World Health Organisation (WHO) says spread through person-to-person contact and respiratory droplets. "Let us all be a part of this curfew, which will add tremendous strength to the fight against COVID-19 menace. The steps we take now will help in the times to come," PM Modi tweeted moments before the "Janata curfew" came into effect.

According to NDTV reports, the one-day "janata curfew", one of the biggest national exercises in the world, has been necessitated by the rising cases of COVID-19 across India.

PM Modi had said on Thursday that, There is no cure for this, so we need to remain healthy. We need to avoid crowds and stay home. Social distancing is critical. If you think you can roam around as usual and feel you will not be at risk, this is incorrect; you are endangering yourself and your family.

The PM asked citizens to stand at their doors, windows and balconies at 5 pm and clap, clang utensils or ring bells in a show of support to those providing essential services while the entire country is on a self-quarantine mode.

What about others? Are they not the citizens of India. If govt. announces any scheme/benefits/packages all of us want to have. Why can't follow simple safety measures during this disaster? Very soon we will have to pay for our "ego", "carelessness" "disobedience" and "attitude of don't care". That time no gods will rescue us. Faithful citizens will suffer because of pride and irresponsibilities. Govt. Officials/religious leaders are not fool to request the public to be indoors. What a terrible state!! Surprising to note that even there's no chirping sound of birds and less movements of other animals of dogs cats outside animals here. It's so silent here... Real curfew is observed by people in some areas. I feel there's no existence of human beings in our area...

Its a good start of tokenism. Given the rising cases and and no testing of mass population a complete lockdown for 3-4 weeks would reduce immensely the spread .

Thats the need of the hour. Case in point USA, a staggering increase in cases as they did not heed testing earlier.
