Mangalore, Dec 22: Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D Souza in his Christmas message to the people hoped that the festival that celebrates the birthday of Lord Jesus Christ will spread happiness, peace and goodness among classes of people including seniors and juniors, poor and rich in the society.

Speaking at a press conference in Bishop’s House here on Tuesday December  22, Bishop said that may Christmas spread the peace and love among all the communities in the country and thus communal harmony in the society.

`With the celebration of the holy festival, we have to recall the services of the priests of the community, who are rendering their service as per the lord’s message, said bishop adding that the Mangalore diocese includes thousands of priests, sisters under service for the human kind and also living their life as Jesus Christ lived.

Pope Benedict XVI has told to celebrate the year as `Priests’ Year’ from June 2009 to June 2010 and hence dedicated services of the priests and their good relation with human kind needs to be respected during the festival, he observed.

The diocese has engaged in serving the society by conducting various programmes. Through the medical relief fund, it is helping the people, who suffer from cancer, kidney, heart and such other diseases, he added.

Vicar general monsignor Dennis Moras Prabhu proposed the vote of thanks. Public relations officer of the Bishop House Fr William Menezes welcomed all. Ramond D’Cunha, Mashal Monteiro and Elyas Fernandes among others were present.
