Sri Ayyanna Higher Primnary School, located at Padu Kalattoor – Payyar under the limits of Kuttar gram panchayat, near here lies on the threshold of platinum jubilee celebrations. The school was set up in 1933 and many development works were being carried out since then in order to celebrate platinum jubilee this year.



The late Ignatius Nazareth set up a lower primary school, here about seven and a half decades ago at Padu Kalattor, a remote village, with the view of providing education to local people. The same School was later handed over to the care of Ayyanna yane Venkappayya, to manage it efficiently and sustain growth. The school was upgraded to higher primary school under the able guidance of Ayyanna.
 
Sheshappayya Gurme of Kalattoor led the management of school after the demise of Ayyanna, achieving significant developments since 1977. He was instrumental in undertaking various development works at school with Rotary funds availed with the efforts of Shirva Rotary former president Edwin Rodrigues.
 
Praveen Kumar Gurme took over the charge from Sheshappayya when the latter passed away and developed school expending Rs 60 lac with the generous contributions of philanthropists and local donors, in order to celebrate the platinum jubilee. The new classrooms were constructed under the supervision of building committee. The compound wall has been erected with the contributions of local MLA’s fund, toilet facilities and Akshara Dasoha kitchen facility from Rotary matching-grant among others.
 
To mark the platinum jubilee celebrations, a children’s nursery, computer facility, television, music instruments and bicycle stand are being provided at the school. The school authorities also have sought contributions of philanthropists and locals to complete the works.
 
A committee has been formed with the honorary chairmanship of school correspondent Praveen Kumar Gurme, executive president Kishore Kumar Gurme, entrepreneur Suresh Shetty Gurme, chief correspondent Kalavati Sheshappayya and secretary Raviraj. 
 
Local elder Payyar Shivaram Shetty, Alumni Association president Divakar B Shetty Kalattoor, parents-teachers association president Sujatha, Kutyar gram panchayat president Nithyanand Shetty, chief secretary Divakar D Shetty, joint secretaries Eugene Tauro, Prabhakar Shetty and Santhosh R Shetty, treasurer Xavier Mendonca, assistant treasurer Jagadish Rao, organizing secretaries K Vishwanath Rao and Jamaluddin are to lead the cultural committee that will work for the success of platinum jubilee celebrations of school.
 
 
Platinum jubilee celebrations on Dec 26
 
The platinum jubilee celebrations of school will be held on Saturday December 26, said School correspondent and platinum jubilee celebration committee honorary president Praveen Kumar Gurme.
 
State home and district-in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya will inaugurate the platinum jubilee celebrations. MP Sadanand Gowda will inaugurate the newly-built classrooms and Dakshina Kannada district-in-charge minister J Krishna Palemar will inaugurate the school compound wall.
 
Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon will preside. Mumbai police officer Daya Nayak, entrepreneur Suresh Shetty Gurme, zilla panchayat president Gladys D’Almeida, former state minister Vasant V Salian, block education officer D Manjunatayya, Vidyaniketan Group of education institutions correspondent K V Acharya, JDS district president Deviprasad Shetty, Kutyar gram panchayat president Nityanand Shetty and taluk panchayat member Chandrahas Poojary will be the chief guests.
 
School retired headmaster Edwin Rodrigues will be felicitated on the occasion, said Praveen Kumar Gurme.
