Bantwal’s coronavirus casualty’s husband, children test negative

Bantwal, Apr 23: The health department has since received test reports of the throat swabs of the husband and two children of a 50-year-old woman from Bantwal Kasaba village who succumbed to coronavirus infection recently. All the three results have confirmed that they do not have coronavirus infection. In the meantime, the officials are awaiting two more reports.

The woman had been admitted into hospital on April 18 after suffering from acute respiratory problems. She was tested for coronavirus but the result was negative. After she died, another test was conducted, which confirmed that she was coronavirus positive.

Health department officials said that test reports of the samples of the mother-in-law of the deceased woman who is undergoing treatment at a private hospital, and that of the person who has been taking care of her, are yet to be received.

    Dear Monty Dotor, I am in full agreement with your views; very few in this forum match your knowledge & practical views!
    As enumerated by you, only a single CORONA positive test without a lung imaging corroboration is not a final evidence of death due to CORONA! However, our overloaded & fatigued system does not have time to do these confirmatory tests! Since, we r at the cusp of a changing season, it's the the time for common cold, hay fever, allergic rhinitis etc., symptoms of which get exacerbated in those suffering from asthma, COPD, chronic bronchitis, allergy etc.! Forcing these patients for a single CORONA test (which is very unreliable), & stamping them as CORONA +ve does not fit any logic; many, who are not having CORONA but just CORONA like symptoms have a big chance to acquire the same in a dingy quarantine facility, and perish! Also, it's now well known that CORONA can attack the brain,eyes, liver, kidney etc.!
    Since a vaccine is at least a year away, & the virus has been found to be transmitted by airborne infected aerosols, it's practically impossible for anyone to avoid coming in contact with the virus! The only thing that can save you is your immune system; that too some healthy young individuals may be susceptible due to some gene variation which does not confront the virus!
    The only way out will be to develop here immunity, which happens when 40-60% of population gets exposed!
    There are unverified reports of it's resurgence in South Korea though it's found to be much milder than the original infection!
    Considering our bleak economic scenario, it would be better to open the lockdown in stages so we do not fall into an economic abyss where the socioeconomic effects of CORONA far outweigh the direct effect of CORONA itself! Also, it's very sad that the CORONA phobia that has been created has made man lose his rational thinking where, now, man is pitted against man!

    As per latest research reports, CORONA virus is a very tricky virus; it waxes & wanes giving many false negatives! Moreover, the rapid test kits are not dependable as they can also cross react with other pathogens including other human CORONA viruses giving false + ve results! Only RT-PCR testing is dependable, but it takes time & expensive!

    Since the people close to her are negative, it appears she picked the infection from elsewhere; but still, how did those close to her did not get infected for so long? Very strange & baffling indeed! Since many other factors like the sample collection, the competency of the collector, mixing of samples, preservation of sample till reaching the lab, everything counts for the end report!

    BTW, results before death negative, after death positive is really puzzling; now, on what basis one would finally conclude whether the victim was really positive or negative, any experts opinion??

    Ordinarily a CT /MRI scan or at least an x-ray chest has to be done apart from lab tests to confirm Corona.Lab test PCR more reliable than antibodies test but both can give false positive and false negative results.An X-ray chest can be normal in case of a person with corona having few symptoms but when it in an symptomatic stage there would be ground glass opacities in both(bilateral) lungs.To differentiate from Pneumonia which will show lobar consolidation which is usually on one side (unilateral).But these findings have to be correlated with history,and clinical signs and symptoms. Just from lab tests one cannot say if the patient had Corona or not!
    BTW I am not an expert.

    Do we have that RT-PCR in india ? If yes why they are not using it ? Most of my colleagues in Dubai / Abu Dhabi leaving in accomodation are tested positive but not showing any symptoms like fever or cough and they are well without any respiratory problems there they test using a small tube inserted to nostrils. I don't understand this

    RT-PCR test is available in India and it is used also but as it is costly for mass testing the other less reliable antibody based test is used.RT-PCR is not 100 % accurate but it is based on identifying the virus, false positive reports can be due to viral remnants which may remain in the nose and pharynx even after virimia is absent.On the other end the rapid test kits imported from China have given a accuracy of less than 6 % according to experts.

    I saw in other media that this family in cable business. The women who died was taking care of business also She was in contact with staff also. Need to quarantine the contacts. It takes some times 28 days to
    Give proper results.
