Mangaluru: MLA Dr Bharath Shetty dismisses malicious propaganda, says he tried to pacify people

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Apr 25: Mangaluru (north) MLA Dr Y Bharath Shetty, has claimed that there was false information in the social media about the cremation of the mortal remains of the woman who died of coronavirus infection. "A systematic attempt to spread malicious propaganda is being made in this respect," he explained.

Dr Shetty said that the district administration had already taken away the woman's body. He dismissed the notion that it was kept at Pachanady graveyard. "When a large number of people gathered there to oppose the funeral, I tried to educate them by providing information. The spot was changed after it was felt that it can result in problems if the situation goes out of control. I did not oppose it. As a doctor, I cannot even think of such a thing. But, there is a need to effectively convey information to the people living in the rural belts that conducting funerals of such bodies will not have any adverse effect on anyone. The district administration will take pre-emptive steps to ensure that such things do not recur," he stated.

Dr Y Bharath Shetty

"At a time when the entire family of the coronavirus victims had to stay away and could not participate in the funeral, it is our duty to emotionally consider these things apart from showing humanitarian support. I do not wish to indulge in politics under such trying circumstances," he explained.

MLA Vedavyas Kamath, said that the funeral was opposed by people because of the wrong notions. He asked everyone to understand the reality and show humanity. He advised people to discard of the belief that cremation of the body spreads the virus in the environment. "When they get wrong information, the people should stay firm and have patience and control over emotions. The district administration takes all possible measures like spraying of disinfectants wherever graveyards are located. The legislators from the district have been trying our best to ensure that the district become coronavirus-free by joining hands with the district administration," he added. He also pleaded with the people not to get influenced by misinformation.

    A question for the community..

When a Roman Catholic dies, he/ she has a registered parish where they will be buried.

Isn't this there for every religion, like an area wise of their residence?

    Regards

Why do you blame MLA Bharat shetty. The person who died from covid19 was from Bantwal and the authorities wanted to burn the body at Pachanady open burial ground. When Mangalore has got a Electrical cremation Equipment for Human Dead body,Why the burial was not done there. It would have been a safe place. All the comments are talking about humanitarian ground why can't all of them pressure the authorities to do the burial at the place where we have got the electrical facilities. Already Pachanady has become a disaster due to dump yard and all the unwanted dogs are brought and left here. Even the air us polkuted and the full surrounding area stinks.

If I am not mistaken, victims body was first taken to Bolar crematorium, but there too a mob disallowed them to dispose the body; finally it landed at Pachanady from where it was shunted again!
It's really painful to see a body being denied last rites because of some flimsy reasons which have no scientific base!
We have to remember; today it's her turn, tomorrow well could be ours! Under the given circumstances, it was highly irresponsible on the crowd's part to resist & drive away the hearse carrying the body for no valid reason!
Anyways, we are just opining in hind sight; hope better sense & humility prevails next time!
    Jai Hind!

    rehnaa,
first better correct your statement "... to do the burial at the place where we have got the electrical facilities". Burning the dead body is called cremation and putting a dead body into a grave in the ground is called burial.

I wish to bring this matter to the MLA's attention through this medium. In a town on the outskirts of Mangalore that falls under Dr. Bharath Shetty's jurisdiction, there are people mainly daily wage earners waiting for their hunger to be fulfilled. They neither have food with them nor have the resources to buy something from the shops.
The government had made arrangements to have food cooked in one of the schools and in fact, on the first day many people had availed of this facility. However, when they came back on the second day seeking food, they were sent back without food being served. Rumours have it that some misunderstanding/ego clash arose between some elected representatives as a result of which the permission to provide food was abruptly withdrawn. It is five to six days since this happened and most unfortunately, the issue doesn't appear to have been sorted out. The result is, despite having enough stock of rice and other commodities, food is not being cooked and the needy are being deprived of the food.
Isn't it sad and tragic that just to satisfy the bloated ego of some elected representatives, this good intention of the government has not seen the light of day? Why should the poor and hapless hungry people go without food when the government's intention is to feed the needy? Why can't these matters be settled so that the cooking is resumed without further delay? What are the elected representatives waiting for? For the lockdown to be lifted? This reminds me of the kannada proverb - Devaru vara kottaru poojari vara kodalilla. How sad!
