Riyadh: Saudi Konkans Celebrate Christmas

Riyadh, Dec 26: The members of Saudi Konkan Association Riyadh (SKAR) celebrated Christmas on Thursday December 24 midnight.
In the beginning association secretary Ashok Monis (Beltangady) conducted prayers and the other members sung the carols. President Leo Sequeira (Udupi) conveyed the Christmas wishes. Later the kids cut the Christmas cake and distributed along with the Kuswar which was prepared by the members.
After few games the delicious dinner was served, which was again prepared by the members of SKAR. The housie-housie, a game followed the dinner. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the games. Finally secretary Ashok Monis delivered the vote of thanks.
About SKAR
Saudi Konkan Association Riyadh (SKAR) the oldest association of Saudi Arabia founded in 1989 by Mangalorean Konkani speaking Catholic people. The main aim of SKAR is to serve the poor people of Mangalore diocese.
It has been involved in various charity works since 20 years. Every year the association helps poor students of 10 parishes of Mangalore diocese by contributing to their school fees. SKAR also gives financial aid for the medical treatment of needy Mangalorean people. It also supports Konkani artists.
Since 20 years the SKAR members have been celebrating Christmas, Easter and Monthi fest in a traditional Mangalorean way. For all the celebrations they gather at the residences of the members and the dinner is contributed by every family. The office-bearers are elected every year. SKAR is grateful to all the founder members of the association as their generosity has been instrumental in supporting a lot of needy people back home.
