Mangaluru: Renowned gynaecologist Sr Dr Lelian Sequeira of Concetta hospital passes away

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Apr 26: Renowned obstretrician and gynaecologist Sr Dr Lelian Sequeira, who was serving in Concetta hospital in Kinnigoli, passed away at 9 pm on Saturday, April 25. She was 77.

Dr Sr Lelian belonged to the congregation of the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany. She was a member of Maryvale
Convent, Kinnigoli.

Daughter of the late Sebastian Sequeira and the late Magdelene Sequeira, Sr Lelian hailed from Balkunje.

Sr Sequeira was a unique personality. Along with the professional seriousness of a doctor she also had the love and compassion of a nun towards her patients. When Concetta hospital was established in Kinnigoli, it was the only facility that was available for the people living in nearby areas.

Lots of children from nearby schools used to go to Concetta hospital with fractured hands and legs while playing. Many women have delivered here. Sr Lelian Sequeira felt that people should get treatment in the hospital for as many ailments as possible. In order to fulfil this dream, Sr Sequeira used to call specialized doctors to Concetta hospital once a week.

The death of Sr Dr Lelian Sequeira is a huge and unbearable loss to Kinnigoli.

The funeral rites will be held at Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery, Kinnigoli on Sunday April 26 at 10 am.

Sr Lelian stood tall, dedicating her entire life fully to the service of others. In her demise, we have lost a wonderful human being and a dedicated Religious Nun. My heartfelt condolences to you Fr. William Sequeira SJ, Vincy , the entire Sequeira family and the Bethany Sisters.

I have fond memories of our 1983 Novitiate trip with Fr Willie to her home in Balakunje , staying a couple of days with their parents . Sr Lelian was present too.

Our sincere heartfelt condolence to the Sequeira Family - Pokke.

Concetta Sequeira and I were classmates from 1st Grade(Balkunje). After 5th Standard she enrolled
at Kinnigoly (Girl's High School) while I enrolled at PompeiiHigh Scool - for boys.

We kept in touch all these years! Last time I was Mangalore I had a pleasant and long visit with her at
Concetta Hospital - she was (as usual) in great spirits and quite communicative!

My sympathies to the Sequeira Family(YOU know I know YOU All!). May the Risen Lord take her to
heaven and grant her everlasting PEACE! - AMEN

Sr Dr Lillian Sequeira ..... Rest In Peace!

I was fortunate to start my medical practice in Concetta hospital under her guidance.... The time I spent with her were some of the best moments of my professional life.....

She was principled and expected perfection from everyone and she was the reason Concetta Hospital was not just a hospital but a sanctum of healing. Patients of every creed, religion, color and status thronged to just have her see them and talk to them and that itself would make them feel better........

She appeared tough as she always expected the best from us .....but at the same time she was extremely soft, compassionate and despite her advanced age and her all her ailments she always cared for her patients with utmost care and zeal something that would put most younger professionals to shame..... She was selfless and always thought of others more than herself and this can be testified by the sheer amount of patients she touched in her decades of practice right to her advanced age, always with a smile, without turning a single person away .....

It’s indeed a sad day for the entire populace in and around Kinnigoli as we say goodbye to a Legend.....

I personally believe God has stopped making people like Sr Lelian anymore ....

Its even more personal for me as I can recall her words, advice, laugh, blessings and most of all her comments on my handwriting..... But all I can say is in the words of St Paul... She has fought a good fight and has finished her race and through it all has kept her faith ...... Great will be her reward .....

Rest In Peace Sr Dr Lelian .... till we meet again!

Death of Sr Lilian is a great loss to the community. Her patients and all those who came into her contact remember always for personal traits of loving, kindness and cocer towards them. She is not a physician towards them but a strong moral support during their infirmities and pains. People especially those in the vicinity of Kinnigoli lost a loving and caring person who stood with them in their hard times and sufferings with great professional ethics. . She showed her humane qualities along with her professional skills. May she harvest the fruits of her hard labour. May her soul rest in peace.

Deeply saddened to know that Sr Dr. Lelian is no more but gives me some respite, knowing that she is now resting in the arms of our Lord. Had an opportunity to visit her in November 2019 during Kinnigoli Parish feast. Such a caring, loving and charming personality even though she was going thru pain and suffering of her own illness. May God Almighty grant eternal rest to her departed soul to 'Rest in Peace'. My sincere condolences to all the Sisters of Kinnigoli & Balkunje (especially Sr. Dr. Jivita from Concetta Hospital who worked very closely with Sr. Lelian for many years).
