Dubai: KNRI Forum sets up helpline to assist Kannadigas during lockdown

Daijiworld Media Network - Dubai

Dubai, Apr 26: The worldwide battle against the deadly coronavirus pandemic has left millions stranded away from their homes due to the sudden lockdowns and suspension of public transport services. At the same time, several kind-hearted indivdiduals and organisations engaged in public welfare have come forward to serve people in need.

Karnataka NRI (KNRI) Forum, UAE together with Dubai Anivasi Kannadigaru has set up a helpline for Kannadigas in the UAE. People from Karnataka residing in the emirate may contact the helpline for food requirements, and medical or legal assistance or any other emergency during the lockdown period.

People who require assistance may register their details by filling the form in the website given below. A member of Anivasi Kannadigaru will then get in touch with the person needing assistance.

Speaking to Daijiworld, KNRI Forum president Praveen Shetty said, "We have already distributed kits to 350 people. We are getting in touch with the Indian consulate to help 25 to 30 patients. A lot of people are coming forward to help, and some have even given 100 kits. We have now launched a website to help Kannadigas in the UAE who have been affected by the lockdown. We will continue to support them till flight services resume."

Recently, KNRI Forum led by Praveen Shetty had written to Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel seeking repatriation of Kannadigas stranded in the UAE, stating that the latter have been facing difficulties due to health problems and unemployment.
