Bengaluru, Apr 27: Parappana Agrahara prison superintendent has approached the authorities with a request to conduct coronavirus tests on every person who is intended to be remanded to judicial custody and confirm that the result is negative.

Five of the persons arrested from Padarayanapura for creating ruckus were found to be coronavirus positive when in judicial custody. This incident had resulted in political furore on the shifting of the people from one area to the other, resulting in red zone tag for an area which was under green zone earlier. Therefore, the prison superintendent has requested the chief city civil and sessions judge, asking him to make it mandatory to conduct corona test on people proposed to be sent on judicial custody and ensuring that they do not have that disease.

"As per the directions of the Supreme Court, high court and state director general of police, suitable precautionary measures have been undertaken in the central prison here. The number of inmates in the prison has already exceeded 5,000. There is a need to be extra careful as the number of prisoners is more than the capacity of the prison, he pointed out.

He has suggested that in view of high number of coronavirus positive cases in the city, testing of all the people being presented for judicial custody should be made mandatory. If their result is negative, they can be produced in court and sent to judicial custody. If they are infected, they should be treated till their result is negative, after which they can be handed over to judicial custody, he felt.
