NCW takes cognizance of Raj woman gang-rape case

New Delhi, Apr 27 (IANS): The National Commission for Women on Monday took cognizance in the matter of an alleged rape in Rajasthan.

The commission stated that it has written to the Director General of Police of Rajasthan to initiate immediate inquiry into the matter and take strict action against the culprits.

"The Commission has written to Shri Bhupendra Singh Yadav, Director General of Police, Rajasthan, for immediate investigation and strict action be taken against the culprits and erring police officials as per the law," the NCW stated in a press note.

The commission said that on the intervening night of April 23 and 24, a 40-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by three men amid lockdown.

The victim had been unable to make her way back to her home in Jaipur for over a month from Dausa due to travel restrictions, the NCW said. The woman was allegedly kept at a school for the quarantine purpose in the Sawai Madhopur district by the local authorities where the alleged crime was committed.
