Rapid kits profiteering: Cong demands documents to be made public

New Delhi, Apr 27 (IANS): Congress on Monday demanded that all the documents of procurement of rapid test kits should be made public, after a trial in Delhi High Court revealed massive profiteering and over-pricing by a firm in the COVID-19 test kits sold to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

The legal dispute that came to light in the court unearthed that the same company supplied kits to Tamil Nadu govt at Rs 400 per kit but to ICMR the rate was at Rs 600.

Congress leader Manish Tewari said : "There is an anarchy going on imports of testing kits and government should tell what action have been taken by them."

The said case is of arbitrage in which a company procured testing kits at Rs 245 a kit and supplied 5 lakh kits to ICMR and both the companies involved in the supply profited more than 18 crores, it was said.

When the court reprimanded the firm they agreed to supply it at the rate of Rs 400 per kit.

Tewari said that it's a serious matter that the companies are in profit making and government is not keeping any check and so there is a huge discrepancy. The government should make the papers public as it has centralised procurement of the kits.

Party leader Rahul Gandhi also said, "That any human being would try & profiteer from the immeasurable suffering of millions of his brothers & sisters, is beyond belief & comprehension. This scam is an insult to every Indian. I urge the PM to act swiftly to bring the corrupt to justice."

It is surprising that even during life threatening pandemic, they buy kits at escalated prices. It would not have surfaced but for the legal battle as faulty kits are returned. Can we call it scam? No?

Because corruption and scams are regularized now after Modi became PM.

    Some examples:

    1. Ambani can be the part of the Rafael deal even though he has no experience in fighter jets. For that Rafael Deal was modified completely to suit this.
    2. Adani can get the operation of 6 airports without any previous experience
    3. Amit Shah's son can make money 1600 times in business without previous experience and many more

All PM Cronies are doing good business even in recession. PM Cares Fund in place of PM National Relief Fund? This is called regularization of scam with new name "National Interest"

Present PM does not need audit or Lok Pal because everything is done in National Interest.

The BJP which made 'Coffin scam' during Kargil war, is not even leaving this nation disaster for their own profit.

Apart from COVID-19 test kits, the biggest scam will be 'PM Cares' that has been kept away from CAG auditing. It has set up in violation of 'Disaster Management Act,2005' that stipulates the detail to handle the crisis and how much the amount to disburse to the victim of the family.

The Department of Revenue in the Ministry of Finance issued a circular dated March 17, 2020, conveying:

“It has been decided to appeal all officers and staff to contribute their 1 day’s salary every month till March 2021 to the Prime Minister’s Citizen’s Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM-CARES) to aid the government’s efforts to fight the corona virus pandemic.”

    1. Is this the Department of Revenue new jizya on its captive employees?
    2. Why every employee of the state has to pay mandatory their 1 day’s salary every month till March 2021 that has no transparency?
    3. Is this new 'PM Care' is the new avatar of Gujarat earthquake relief fund that has been utilized for election campaigning?
