Mangaluru: ‘Double standards’ says MLA Vedavyasa Kamath on Kerala CM sealing borders

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Apr 28: Mangaluru south MLA Vedavyasa Kamath took on to twitter to express his unhappiness on Kerala chief minister (CM) Pinarayi Vijayan instructing state officials to seal borders of his own state.

The MLA tweeted, “Now we can clearly see the Double Standards of @vijayanpinarayi, sealing the borders of TN and KTKA. When DK Administration closed borders as Pro active procedures, Kerala CM went to SC and now seals his own state borders. This is a Face palm moment.”

It may be recalled, CM Pinarayi Vijayan was very angry when Dakshina Kannada district administration had sealed it border with Kerala state. He had demanded for opening the road, exerted pressure through officials to achieve what he desired, and then approached Supreme Court, insisting that Karnataka was wrong in sealing its border. Now he himself has instructed state officials to seal borders of his own state. He appears to have undergone the transformation very fast, and has therefore been coming in for lot of flak from the people.

Vijayan passed an order on Monday, to close the state's border with Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to ensure that people from these states do not cross to Kerala.

MLA Vedavyasa Kamath (left) and Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan

He issued this instruction at the meeting he held with the district collectors and police officers where the COVID 19 situation was reviewed. He too this decision in view of the sharp rise in coronavirus positive cases being reported form Karnataka and Tamil Nadu states in the recent past.

It may be recalled that Kerala government had approached Supreme Court against Karnataka's decision to restrict entry into the state from other states. Later, as per Supreme Court guidelines, clear guidelines were formulated to allow patients other than coronavirus infected ones entry into Karnataka subject to satisfaction of certain conditions.

Dear MLA, sealing border is a usual course during lockdown. Point to be noted here is , Kerala allows the entry of ambulances/critically ill patients even though the borders are sealed unlike Karnataka had done. More people have died in Kerala due to Mangalore closing borders than COVID19. Its is only due to the border places of Kasaragod depends more on Mangalore since it is nearer. It's disgusting as a human being and a fellow country men, what Karnataka has done during difficult times to Kerala. And, this will not be forgotten!

People of DK should be happy bcos most of them don't like Keralites coming there,
Not only TN's kanyakumari district residents are coming for treatment to kerala, even people from some parts of mysore district (villages like H D Kote and more ) is coming to Wayanad district in kerala. Mysore is more developed and have better facilities than Wayanad but distance matters in some cases that is why Kerala asked to open its borders for emergency or existing patients who were treated from DK.
Human should help each other in crisis without any discrimination.

Mr. Kamath has nothing worthwhile to talk about his Government’s achievement, and then the easy thing to do is to provoke and divert attention of people by taking up issues about Kerala. What Kerala has achieved in Covid management, the entire world knows even if anyone turns a blind eye to it. We are fully aware that it is not fully over for the State as we have large number of immigrants waiting to come back to the State and cases are definitely going to be on the rise. But, unlike people of Karnataka, we never said that our immigrants should not be allowed to come back. We will overcome the next phase too.

As regards border, it is only setup to restrict movement of normal people across borders. Anyone requiring travelling across for emergency purpose is allowed as per mutually agreed protocols. Kerala respects human values and that is exactly why we have set up the unit of RCC in Kanyakumari for the benefit of TN cancer patients. Kerala never denied treatment to anyone

We have learnt our lessons too from the Covid. One of that is lack of good medical facilities in Kasaragod District and the work has started in right earnest for completion of Medical College and a Super Speciality private hospital. Second one is self-sufficiency in terms of vegetables by promoting growing of vegetables at home and the project is already commenced. Ours is a responsible and responsive Government. Red Salutes to Comrade.

The Mangalore MLA may note that even inter district borders are closed in Kerala that contain Red Zones. People of Kasargod have been visiting hospitals of Mangalore for ages and all their medical history sheets are with the hospitals in Mangalore. To abruptly close the border and the CM of Karnataka making a crude staement that opening of border is as good as embracing death was not in good taste.

All the vegetables still come from Tamilnadu as one of these persons tested positive strict control is being kept at the Tamilnadu Border. No Entry sign like dsiplayed on the Karnataka border with mud embankements are not placed at this border.

Dear MLA instead of making false statement please try to concentrate on the preventive measures of Corona, like what Kerala is doing. The border is not sealed for ambulances and goods vehicle. Karnataka sealed the border for medical emergencies also and 12 innocent life lost. The politicians in the state was busy in yaga, marriage, birthday, swimming in pool, protest against cremation of the Covid victim, PR stunt etc. KL-TN border was not sealed earlier. Now it is a state emergency as the neighbouring districts are in high risk. Ambulance and goods vehicles are allowed to pass. The police was strict in Kerala for imposing the lock down. Kasargode has set up Covid speciality hospital and another one by TATA is under progress. Bow they are bringing back the expatriates. What about Karnataka?

Why is the MLA worried that the border is sealed by the govt of Kerala? Earlier the people of Kasargod wanted the border to be open, not for treating their Covid19 patients but for treating people suffering from other serious ailments. Many people from Kasargod used to visit Mangalore for treatment in the private medical colleges and hospitals in Mangalore.Since the Karnataka govt was very adamant in preventing people from consulting their regular doctors, some people lost their lives(this includes Kannadigas staying in Kasargod too). More over for them the nearest hospitals were in Mangalore. I think here after the private hospitals in Mangalore which were heavily dependent on patients from Kasargod will be in trouble as they may not get patients from there once the construction of the govt medical college and the TATA owned Super Speciality hospital is completed.(the construction is in full swing)
Therefore cool down MLA because there is no need for Mangaloreans to go to Kerala for treatment. Consider it as a blessing in disguise as the adage goes "What the patient desired and what the physician prescribed was milk."

Besides, one thing the MLA failed to notice is that the Kerala
CM has given permission to the people from the neighbouring districts of Tamil nadu who used to visit RCC(Regional Cancer Centre) Trivandrum to come and get treatment. This clearly shows his benevolence unlike what was done by DK Administration.

MLA needs to concentrate more on the work as nothing substantial is done in his term in comparison to the earlier MLA who was very active and had taken up lot of developmental work in the constituency. One example is newly built Urwa Market. No initiative by the MLA to make it operational other than blaming earlier MLA.

When Kasargod in Kerala reported the first cases for Mangaloreans' it became part of Pakistan. There are many death reported on the border other than Corona case due to entry restrictions. Then Kerala has forced to approach High Court and get some relief for the essential movement.

Now the Kasargod district has far less numbers of pandemic cases than the Mangalore which see the numbers increasing every day.

So it is logical to close the border to prevent second outbreak.

Today Maharashtra has number cases in India. If MLA go argue the same in Belgaum border the Shiv Sena will kick him beating black and blue.

Chris, you think Karnataka is having excess money in the treasury?? CM is already on street with begging bowl. if the lock-down continued, which is perhaps going to happen, he might even come t your house to demand whatever you saved. The same MLA was crying about Corona virus when people of Kasaragod, including kannadigas, want to come to Mangalore for treatment, for a delivery of baby. They did not wanted to come for treatment for Corona but for the follow up with the doctors who was taking care of them for so many years. Did you forgot that these same MLAs and others opposed opening the border? Now when Kerala CM want to close the border, what is the problem for this MLA, is that he wanted in first place?? Or does he have vested interest in few group of hospitals??
Rehna, are you really serious that now we in Karnataka will get corona infection from Keralites. You must be joking, there are literally very few cases in Kerala now and do you know how many cases we have in Karnataka (it is more than 500). if people really want to be proud, these Keralites do not even need to use Mangalore Airport, they can use Kochi Airport, jut for example. In first place it is we, people from Mangalore wanted to close the border, then why we are complaining now if Kerala CM want to close it?

stop writing lengthy replies nobodys going to read. Its a failed state, can't even open anything in that state without the consent of the govt. What is this democracy or dictatorship? Why are you then coming across border to Karnataka if life was so good in kerala? You're welcome to come but stop feeding lies to public about what a economic marvel kerala is, nobody is buying it.

Firstly, it is 'State of Karnataka' that went to Supreme Court in appeal Kerala High Court Order and not Pinarayi Vijayan. Also, Pinarayi didn't file the case in Kerala High Court, it was Advocates' Association. This was not for containing by Karnataka (which Karnataka has every right to do). Matter went to High Court because Ambulances were blocked.

Kerala or Tamil Nadu have not officially blocked National Highways and Ambulances.

Peene..Eendam Prasanaam...More than lakhs of menflock from kerala struck in other countries to travel..think of it..additional burden on state's ex-chequer. Where is industries in Kerala. Wants to depend upon only on other states. Only one industry striving good none other film industry. Even tourism collapsed. NRI's returning. What need so many intl.airports if no tourists in coming days.Karnataka and Tamil Nadu well capable of states in all respects.

    Dear MLA,

There is nothing wrong in their action. You did not want anybody to enter Karnataka from Kerala and vice Versa. Then what is the problem. Either we close or they close...the purpose is restriction of movement of people from both sides. Now your initial purpose is served as against the SC ruling. Why cry foul now ??? Instead you should be happy that things have happened in its own way.

This very pinnarayin had moved kerala HC to open the border at mangalore, to move covid patients to mangalore hospitals ,as his government had failed to provide medical treatment to the affected. He was pressuring the central government to lift the night ban through bandipur sanctuary, so that the timber lobby from kerala could smuggle illegal timber. To support it from Ktaka was the former PM and his son Kari Idli.

They have not flushed covid cases into Karnataka. It's only border residents of Kasaragod that relies on Mangalore for treatments which was already denied to them. Now why is everyone anxious abt they sealing borders?!! People here were blaming kerala for not building hospitals and yet they have only 2 covid deaths in entire kerala and DK alone has same number of deaths. What exactly are you boasting about? They have done a tremendous job even without hospitals don't u think?

The least deaths(4) in Corona Virus are in Kerala State.
Due to extreme care taken by Kerala Health Department.

Now when land, pertol bunk and checkpost belongs to kerala we should not be worried...yes the palm has landed in ktaka face ,its normal for the way we blocked borders, dumped debri on the road to not alllow vehicles, ktaka has resolved to unruly measures and sparked this off.....no need to cry now, focus on karnataka and demand help from center as every state has their people as a priority in this sites

This is just a Precaution Mr MLA. Same thing what Mangalore did a few weeks ago. They went to Court, u too can go ahead. They r now worried they COVID 19 doesnt cross over to Kerala border. People may say, who goes to Kerala, everyone does when in need. So if Kasargod people wanted treatment in Mangalore hospitals they had the right to choose where they wanted to be treated, so do d people of Karnataka. If we d people of Ktaka dont want to travel to Kerala, lets remain quiet and not waste our energy. There is no double standards, its called TIT for TAT. Lets face it. Kerala govt has done exceedingly well in controlling d epidemic of CV, hats off to them. You lose the battle not when u fall, u lose when u refuse to GET UP. Kudos Kerala!!

@Vedavyas Kamath : Kerala have asked to seal the borders for movement of people as you could see Prior Green Zoned districts such as Idukki and Kottayam have become red zone now due to movement of people from Tamil Nadu.Kerala have not closed borders for emergency services. If you have doubt on this, you can verify with your counter parts bordering Wayanad of Kerala.
Kerala never asked to open border for normal people, close the border till corona gets over. But people with emergency have to reach nearest hospital to save their lives. Denying them health service is clear indication of lack of humanity.
