Shimla, Apr 30 (IANS): The Himachal Pradesh High Court, here on Thursday, issued notice to the state and ambulance service provider GVK-EMRI for not providing personal protection kits to employees deployed in ambulances.
A Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice L. Narayana Swamy and Justice Jyotsna Rewal Dua, passed the order on a petition, taken up suo moto as public interest litigation (PIL) on the basis of a letter of Puran Chand, chairman of the Himachal Pradesh 108/102 Contract Workers Union.
He said the employees deployed in ambulances were providing round-the-clock services without personal safety kits. Also, in ambulances used kits were being reused without sterilisation, posing a threat to lives.
The petitioner sought direction to the respondents to provide personal life safety kits to all employees and take measures for proper sanitisation of vehicles.
The Bench, which also issued notice to the Chief Secretary and the Principal Secretary (Health), will hear the matter on May 1.
