New Delhi, May 1 (IANS): While ensuring the continuous supply of essential commodities during the lockdown in the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indian Railways is not only transporting food items on a large scale but also carrying other essential goods.
In its effort to maintain the supply of essential commodities, the Ferozepur division of Northern Railway made a great start to the FY2020-21 by loading record foodgrains in April.
The Chief Public Relations Officer of Northern Railway said, "The Ferozepur division, in the month of April, loaded a total of 1.10 MT of foodgrains in 401 rakes, which is highest ever loading of any month. Earlier, in August 2016, 1.05 MT of food grains were loaded in 362 rakes and in 2015, 1.03 MT of foodgrains in 365 rakes."
Apart from this, the Ferozepur division sent 61 long distance Annapurna trains in April. These are also the most number of trains sent in any one month. Earlier, in March 2020, 16 such long distance trains were run.
