Delhi appoints nodal offices for migrants' movement

New Delhi, May 1 (IANS): The Delhi government on Friday appointed nodal officers for the movement of migrants, students and tourists across the country following the Central government's nod.

In an order, Delhi Chief Secretary Vijay Dev appointed P.K. Gupta (Principal Secretary, Social Welfare) as the State Nodal Officer for Delhi for coordinating the entire process and procedure for people's movement.

"Muktesh Chander, Special Commissioner of Police, Delhi is designated as Nodal Officer of Delhi Police who shall provide all help, assistance and requisite logistics of Police Department to the State Nodal Officer for movement of the persons from Delhi to respective States/UTs and from other States/UTs to Delhi, as the case may be, as per the protocol prescribed by the Union and Delhi governments," the order said.

Dev, in his capacity as Chairperson Delhi State Executive Committee, ordered 10 more nodal officers, appointed for different states, to provide assistance to Gupta and Chander in accomplishing the task of movement of migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and other persons stranded in Delhi and outside of Delhi.

"The Nodal Officers will also coordinate with their counterparts appointed by various states/UTs and Resident Commissioners of respective state/UTs to provide all required help/assistance and information in respect of movement of persons to their respective states/UTS," Dev said in the order.

IAS (AGMUT, 2000) Madhup Vyas will be the nodal officer for Uttrakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Goa, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Dadar and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

Nikhil Kumar, IAS (AGMUT, 2002) is the nodal officer for Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Amit Singla, IAS (AGMUT, 2003) is the Nodal officer for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, and Sikkim.

Garima Gupta, IAS (AGMUT, 2004) is the nodal officer for Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.

For Uttar Pradesh, the Nodal officer is D.N. Singh, IAS (AGMUT, 2005).

Udit Prakash Rai, IAS (AGMUT, 2007) is the officer for Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra.

For Jharkhand, Azimul Haque, IAS (AGMUT, 2007) is appointed.

S.B. Shashank, IAS (AGMUT, 2007) is responsible for Bihar.

For Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamilnadu, Telangana, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadeep and Puducherry, C. Udaya Kumar, IAS (AGMUT, 2010) will be responsible.

Arun Mishra, IAS, is the Nodal officer for West Bengal and Odisha.

The order came after the Centre allowed all the States/UTS to move migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists students and other persons stranded at different places in their territories.

Also, all states/UTs were advised to designate nodal authorities and develop standard protocol for receiving and sending such stranded persons.

On Friday, the Centre also allowed the movement of the persons stranded at different places by special trains.

Thousands of people across the country were stuck as a nationwide lockdown was announced by the Centre in March, which is now extended till mid-May.
