Udupi farmer responds to Chitradurga onion grower’s appeal, buys stock

Udupi, May 1: A woman farmer who had made video that she is not getting the right price for her onion stock has got help in the form of progressive farmer, Suresh Naik from Udupi.

Chief minister B S Yediyurappa had called Vasantha Kumari, the woman farmer from Hiriyur and had told her to have courage. The video had gone viral state-wide. Now Suresh Naik from Udupi has given good price for the onions and bought the whole produce.

Vasantha along with husband had grown onion in their farm land. They had got 130 bags of yield but as they were not getting fair price in their district, they were not selling the same.

The buyers were offering rate of Rs 150 to Rs 250 per quintal, but, Suresh Naik has bought these bags at Rs 550 per bag. Farmers are now feeling that justice is done.

    Contrast this with the Kerala incident. Recently when a farmer
    from Badiadka lamented about his unsold stock of pumpkins the
    Kerala CM and his agricultural minister instructed the horticulture
    society to buy the entire stock at a good price. Yediyoorappa can
    only advice his farmers to be courageous.

    this farmer lady from chitrdurga distt.karnataka had appealed on facebook. she had explained the plight of farmer in a very detailed way. i felt very bad. now i am overwhelmed to know the good gesture of mr. suresh naik of udupi. god bless him. some days back a farmer from sk had pumpkins unsold and he had appealed similar way and a good samaritan from kerala helped him. we are a democratic nation. farmers are our backbone. . our prayers and good wishes will always be to our farmers who feed us and the soldiers who guard our motherland at the borders.

    Suresh Naik has remained as role model in entire state of Karnataka where the Government also is helpless to the girl farmer's miserable appeal which people have been witnessed all over the world. We are proud about Suresh Naik for his quick action in helping the helpless girl farmer and wishing him good luck ahead!

    Do not squeeze the blood of this poor fellow Indians.

    BE REASONABLE.
    Its time for these Farmers to sell directly to the Consumers...retailers.
    by social media..we are one nation..one people.
    We cannot take money when we die.
    so, live well..be judicious..
    we complement one another.
    Help the Farmers who slog..in the Farms with such tough conditions.help them to help you.

    This is a good beginning. All farmers need to send messages about their crop so that all buyers can suggest the best offer they can make. Still, 100kg onions for Rs. 550/= is equal to Rs. 5.50/kg.
    How much will it cost in the market in Mangalore?

    Good point! Still you need to add costs related to transportation, storage, maintenance of stores, wages and some percentage (though small) going waste as spoiled. Hats off to Mr. Suresh Naik for his kind gesture!

    Of all the APMC (agricultural produce market committee) reforms in India, Karnataka’s Rashtriya eMarket Services Pvt. Ltd, or ReMS, has been arguably the most popular one. The Congress-run state’s pioneering effort under former Chief Minsiter Siddarmaih was mentioned even by Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he launched a national electronic trading platform called National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) earlier this year, which is supposed to operate like ReMS.

    Despite the huge success the program was even launched by central government in national level and many other states followed later.

    Now Karnataka own farming sister cry is real worrying factor. The ruling BJP government may have
    intentionally neglecting the farmers owes just in order to relaunch the same product with different name.

    I am glad to now that farmer efforts are lately paid off. I appeal to Karnataka government that no farmer in the state will take the path of suicide for crop failure or minimum support price. E-Mandi is the most successful program need to be continue uninterrupted despite the change of ruling party.
