Karkala: Celebrated Ornithologist, Dr S A Hussain, No More
Daijiworld Media Network – Karkala (SP)

Karkala, Jan 1: Dr S A Hussain (66), who was a well known ornithologist and environmental scientist and a native of Anekere here, breathed his last at around 12.30 am on Thursday December 31. It is learnt that the avid environmentalist was watching ‘Animal Planet’ on his computer, when he collapsed suddenly.

After completing his degree in the town, Hussain went to Mumbai and joined Bombay Natural History Society as an assistant researcher in its Bird Migration Project. He later was promoted as senior assistant researcher, curator, project scientist, senior scientist and director of the research department of the society. He had worked in close association with Dr Salim Ali and Dillon Ripley for a long time. He later moved to Malaysia, where he conducted extensive work, which earned him recognition as an ornithologist of international repute.

Hussain, who remained a bachelor, had contributed immensely for drawing up of an exhaustive conservation plan for Anekere, a water body in the outskirts of the town that had been allowed to rot, and to develop it into a bird sanctuary since the last several years.

His last rites will be held as soon as his nephews settled in the Gulf, Shabbir Ahmed and Jamshed reach here, it is learnt.

"Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilahyhi Raajiuoon" To Him we belong and to Him we return. Karkala lost a capable, compatible, constructive and creative personality whom we use to adore all the time. He had set plenty of nature conserving concepts which will cherish, treasure and always linger in our lives. May merciful "Allah" bestow him a place in Jannah and grant his family members with strength to bear his parting.

A sad end to the illustrious family of Vakil Haji Syed Hussain Saheb (One of the founder Director of Syndicate Bank and most famous Hussain committee report which revolutionized private education in 1950’s ) . His last surviving son Prof S A Hussain has left us for heavenly Abode. His service to society and Karkala will be remembered for times to come. He was also the Grand nephew of Haji Abdulla Haji Kasim Saheb Bahadur (Founder chairman and Director of Corporation Bank) and grandson of Andar Abbas Saheb (One of the founder directors of corporation bank). But like his brothers and sisters led a simple life with high thinking. His acheivements speak louder than words. Iam proud to be his grandnephew who got a lot of opportunities to interact with him and learnt a lot from him.
