18 labourers travelling in concrete mixer truck held in MP, quarantined

Bhopal, May 2 (IANS): Even as the Centre has ordered running of special trains to ferry persons stuck across the country to their native states, desperate migrant labourers are using every trick in the bag to return home.

Authorities in Indore district have caught hold of 18 migrant labourers while they were travelling to Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh by hiding in a concrete mixer truck, a senior officer told IANS on Saturday.

Shipra Sub-Divisional Officer (Transport) Umakant Chaudhary said that a checkpost was set up on the Sanwer road in Indore district to keep an eye on the traffic movement amid the nationwide lockdown.

He said that a concrete mixer was stopped for checking and 18 migrants travelling in it were detained.

The detainees said that they were on way from Maharashtra to their native places in Uttar Pradesh. They were later sent to a quarantine centre and the truck seized at Sanwer police station.
