Mangaluru, May 3: Wine shops in Dakshina Kannada are set to open for business from Monday May 4, but with certain conditions.

As per guidelines issued by the government, wine shops will remain open from 9 am to 7 pm until further orders. However, this will not be applicable for wine shops in areas designated as containment zones.

Earlier, wine shops had been allowed to open only in green zones. However, now even orange zones have been included.

MLA Vedavyas Kamath confirming the above to Daijiworld Television said that the both private and government wine shops will remain open, but only for take-aways.

Bar and restaurants will remain closed, and wine shops that are open will serve only take-aways. No one will be allowed to linger inside or around the shops.

People have been asked to strictly maintain social distancing and wearing mask is mandatory. Customers in a shop will be limited to five at a time, and with a distance of 6 ft between each customer. Only two to three members of the staff will be allowed to work. 

Excise being a key source of revenue for the government, liquor sales from May 4 are expected to boost the economy which has been severely hit by the lockdown.
