Mangalore: Modern Speed Boats to Protect Coast from Terrorists

Mangalore, Jan 2: The central government, which has woken up to the enormous opportunity the vast coast of the country offers to the terrorists, after learning that the Mumbai terror attackers had come through the sea route, has been strengthening security measures at the coast. One of them is employing of speed boats in the coast.



New Mangalore Port had received a speed boat last year. A speed boat that arrived at the local port recently is undergoing maintenance work. The boat, presently anchored near the fishing jetty, is equipped with ultra modern VAH, HF, VHF, satellite phone, global positioning system, eco sounder, radar, walkie-talkie etc.

The boat, manufactured at Dubai, reached here after an 11-day trip. After the maintenance works, oil change etc., are completed, it will move to Visakhapatnam port in Andhra Pradesh. This boat has been bought by Central Industrial Security Force for patrolling the port there. The boat is being supplied by Harshavardhan Marine Services, Mumbai.

It is learnt that the company has imported three boats, one each for Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, Ennore and Tuticorin ports in Tamil Nadu. These speed boats, costing about Rs 1.5 crore each, will be exclusively used for patrolling and operations.

    A good intelligence network first and then arming is the key mitigating surprise attacks. Unfortunately it is the reverse in India. Shashi Tharoor has rightly put it by saying you didn't require visas to attack Mumbai. Likewise, the three terrorists who made good their escape don't either require visas to freely roam India. The underlying message, Security in India will always be lax no matter what armory is in its possession.

    Unfortunately we Indians do not accept our weakness and still live in myth which is not realistic. Our Country has such huge resources & potentiality and surprised to learn that this Modern Speed Boats manufactured in Dubai. When we will be self reliant in such manufacturing activities. Definitely the Company which built this boat in Dubai had employed Indians and in India we could not manufacture it. Is it our weakness or shame or our pride? Appreciating the Govt.of India's action of providing Mangalore Port modern Speed Boats to Protect Coast from Terrorists. After all prevention is better than cure.

    This is a big joke!Officials can have fun trip by having these boats. There is no visionary from our government and elected representatives on people's priorities!
