Bengaluru, May 4: The state government has issued an order as per which the people have to wear face masks and maintain a minimum of one metre distance between one another within the limits of the local bodies and gram panchayats in the state. This measures are felt to be necessary to regulate the spread of coronavirus infection. Those who fail to comply with the order will be penalised.

Barring Bengaluru, people violating the rule in the other city corporations, municipal limits, town municipalities and town panchayats will be imposed with fine of Rs 200 per occasion. In other places, the quantum of fine will be Rs 100. This order was passed by Jawaid Akhtar, additional principal secretary in the department of health and family welfare.

Police officers in the level of sub-inspector and above in the limits of urban local bodies, health inspectors of municipalities and panchayat development officers at the gram panchayat level can collect this fine. This order will be in force for a period of one year or till the date it is withdrawn, the order said.

Within the limits of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, fine of Rs 1,000 has already been prescribed for not wearing face masks within the city limits. For the second and subsequent violations, Rs 2,000 for each occasion would be levied.
