It is a very good idea that attract tourists and local people to Mangalore. Safety is the most important part of any tourist cruise. If the ship isn't safe it will not be fun.

I have tried out the cruise in another place close to Sultan battery earlier and it was a delight. However I was still concerned about the safety measures taken. It is better to consider all safety measures in advance than regret later. There are jetski and cruise facilities even in the Panambur beach which are a real thrill for the adventurous.

The Port City of Mangalore has all the required infrastructure and facilities which are comparable with the best and the idea of a cruise to Mermaid Islands certainly will go a long way in developing tourist Industry which has not made much headway so far. One could even think of an ocean cruise on The Arabian Sea. At one time there were steamer services between Mangalore and Mumbai and ships used to ply at the greatest delight of passengers. As a little boy I recall Bombay Steam Navigation company plying their steamers like Sabarmathi and Saraswathi via Goa. I wish some entrepreneur would revive transport via Arabian Sea. However before venturing into this areas one ensure all safety regulations are strictly adhered to. Joe Gonsalves

Dear All concerned, Please take care of the security aspects in case of natural or accidental calamities. Do not panick at last moment. Prevention is better than cure. The concept is great, even I would love to go for it. But, a second thought-how safe is it?

Glad to know something is happening in our district to attract tourist. Looking on the last two pictures(very scary) am sure NO SAFETY has been considered in this project , look at the wooden platform where ministers /people are jumping out from the boat which is clearly shows unsafe facility. In our country SAFETY is given a last priority Any such project should be given t o independent agency for Risk assessment prior to launch ( not after a tragedy or accident) so that major incidents can be averted. This project still require to be ascertained for safety …

Prevention is better than cure. Do not cry and weep after the tragedy but be careful before someone attend it. Safety is big zero. Unfortunately in our own place and in our country life is conisdered to be very cheap. Even though I know swimming, I will not go close to it.

Thanks Daijiworld for the beautiful photos. Anyway, viewing some of the photos, specially that of struggling to get off the boat to the flatform will make the potential tourists think twice before they could dare to venture the tour. May be with the contribution from the tourist we can improve the structure and provide better facilities.

Seeing the pictures, one has to struggle to climb up from the boat. Secondly, what safety measures in place to protect users from drowning. Recently, Kerala had several water related tragedies inspite of havning hightech ferry boat. It is good for tourists in Mangalore to have this cruise pleasure cum dinner, provided adequate safety norms are upheld at all time.

Irrespective of political affiliation, our own Krishna is doing wonderful job for this region. In some poorest countries of the world, Tourism is the biggest revenue earner. Tourism potential in these 50 acres of Mermaid Island will be tremendous.

Make this project into mega Public-Private Partnership Company. A Task Force sees to it that it have a world class infrastructures, amenities & facilities and above all cleanliness & hygiene in the surroundings. For example: a) By providing ample car-parking space with electronic gate at Sultan Battery, b) Procuring world class Passenger-boats, Speed-boats, Water-scooters, Para-gliders & various imported floats and safety device for the participants, d) Appointing well trained, well mannered, smartly uniformed staff specially from Mogaveer/Muslim Fishermen Communities e) Rope-in a renowned Architect to design the landscape of the island into different region for Children’s Amusement Park, Snack-bar, Fast-food Cafe, Mermaid Island Souvenir Bazaar on Cart-Shops, Multi Cuisine eateries, Toilets etc.

Create a Sculpted-Mermaid with water-fountain in the middle of the river with computer-controlled LED lighting on its surrounding, which is a must, so as it will give the place a landmark identity and lastly provide similar boat connection facilities to the island from Thanneer Baavi region.

Hi, This is good begining for back water tourism.I was just observing how our respected MLA getting down from the boat.Imagine about normal tourist (snape no-14).This is shows our failure in the place of safety of tourists. HOwever we should not forget Kerala beck water tragedy. As per as I know we are very poor in SAfety Norm.WE should keep trained divers and special boat for rescue and make undrstand all tourist follow safety regulation.Provide basic amenety like clean water and rest room to tourist. Good luck,

Very good that something is being done to promote tourism in Mangalore. I was in Thekkady just a week before the boat tragedy happened. I can see all the signs of disaster in waiting here. I can see no one with a life vest in the boat, and compounding to this is I find a lot of people either standing or moving around in the boat. I sincerely wish the Government and the people concerned give due importance to safety first.
