Congress plays the migrant card to push govt and BJP at bay

New Delhi, May 4 (IANS): Congress offer to pay for the railways tickets of migrant workers seems to be a well thought out strategy.

In the party's working committee meeting held twice during the lockdown, Congress sources said that party leaders suggested of going full throttle on the issue of the migrants, who were forced to travel to their hometowns by foot during the lockdown, before the government started train service to take them home.

It was decided that if the government didn't come to the rescue of the migrant workers, the party will step in at the appropriate time, and that is why Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders raised the issue of migrants. And after late night deliberation with the top leadership, Congress has now seized the opportunity by offering to pay for the railway tickets of the migrants.

The party has asked its state units to set up a camp and buy tickets for the migrants who are coming to railway stations to go to their native places. The AICC has also offered to help states lacking resources.

Congress Treasurer Ahmed Patel has assured to help all the states in this matter, saying, "As directed by Congress President Sonia Gandhi, in my capacity as Treasurer, I request the Pradesh Congress Committees to mobilise all possible local resources to help the migrants purchase tickets to go back to their homes. Let us make this a people's movement. Please contact AICC if you require assistance."

Raising the issue of Indians stranded overseas, Congress spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill said that the government is not willing to handle this humanitarian issue. "The country has rich precedent of evacuating Indians stranded abroad. For the first time, they have been left to the mercy of god," Shergill told IANS.

Is the portal mouthpiece of congress, these trains are run at the request of state governments for past several days and as per the railways they have not issued any tickets. It is the states who are bringing the migrants to railway station and arranging for their travel. It is the duty of journalists to contact respective states who had booked these trains and inquire who paid for the tickets.

Migrant trains were never to be charged. 85% was borne by center and 15% was to be borne by states.
Some one created a controversy. Now it is revealed that only Maharastra was charging since they did not agree to pay 15%. Very sad that people are playing politics over poor.

It is unfortunate that government has failed to required steps in time.

Screening at Airports was delayed for political reasons (Namaste Trump), Lockdown was delayed again for political reasons(buying of MP MLAs), then lockdown was announced abruptly without understanding the impact on common man particularly migration workers, daily wage labourers, No proper supply chain was put in place for movement of essential commodities, Farmers produce like vegetables had to go waste because there was no system in place to lift these items.

In health front, government had not done enough preparations even after caution from experts, opposition parties and proper PPE was not provided in time. However health workers did a commendable job in this situation even with many failures of this government.

Even in this testing times this government indulged in event management and priorities of this government is clearly visible to the common man. Blaming or making fun of opposition will not solve the problems but the government itself will get exposed for its failures. Principal Opposition party is doing the right thing by standing with common man.

Reality is for everybody to see and people understood that governance cannot be replaced with speeches or fake WhatsApp messages.

Who is responsibly ruling the country now at the crucial times???. Congress is doing it and deserves to be the party of choice. Congress is showing BJP now what it was doing in 70 years of rule, it's not new to congress. Whereas BJP promises one thing and does different for selfish motive. BJP is not even fit to be in opposition. BJP plays only destructive game in both ruling and opposition.

Opposition (Congress) is awash with loot; found an easy way to liquidate a small part instead of feeding the poor and hungry due to COVID-19 lockdown. Why can't Rahul and Sonia donate some money to the PM fund instead of getting political mileage?
