Melbourne, Jan 3: The Mangalorean community in Melbourne bid adieu to 2009 and welcomed the new decade in grand style under the auspices of the Mangalorean Catholic Association of Victoria (MCAV).
Despite the weatherman predicting it to be a very hot day, the over 180 patrons, members and guests danced the evening away in air-conditioned comfort. As promised, it was indeed an evening of grand entertainment for the community members, conducted in a most family-friendly manner.
The compere for the evening, Reginald Pereira-Kamath, made sure that the function flowed smoothly and cheerfully to the grand finish. ‘AfterGlow’, a super-energetic band of young persons, never allowed a dull moment to creep in. The audience kept asking for more, and the band enthusiastically obliged every wish of the audience. There was lilting music for the lovers of Waltz, Rock-n-Roll, Line-Dance, and of course, with an icing of Baila.
In his President's address, Bert Naik mentioned about how successive volunteer committees have worked selflessly in helping MCAV grow and become arguably one of most professionally run community associations. Bert spoke about the dedication of several individuals who have volunteered with their services at every function. The self-esteem of young people in the community could be nurtured only when a few good souls keep contributing to the community welfare without expecting anything in return, he added
He was particularly appreciative of the current committee made up of Colin Fernandes (Vice President), Allan Mendonsa (Secretary), Jason Mendonsa (Acting Treasurer) and Cuby Martis (Social Secretary). Janet D'Mello, although not a committee member, took care of all the finer details of the event.
MCAV acknowledged Michelle Engineering Co LLC (Ajman), Shine Star Engineering Co LLC (Dubai), Winneys' Restaurant (Dubai), Elegant (Dubai), Benzarath (Ajman), Mosaco Shipping & Forwarding LLC (Dubai), Merit Freight Systems Co LLC (Dubai), and Ahmed Abdul Karim Transport (Dubai), the sponsors.
