St Aloysius Institutions rector Fr Joseph Rodrigus felicitated the five eminent personalities in the presence of Fr Denzil Lobo, director of AIMIT.
Dr Amruth Someshwar delivering the annual Aloysian lecture on the topic cultural heritage of the district said that Tulunadu has inherent culture of hospitality and welcomes everyone irrespective of their caste and religion. The region since long is known to harbour trade and traders including that of those offshore, he said.
When the rich heritage of the city is taken into consideration, the contributions of the Basel Mission and the Catholic Christian institutions to the district are the most vital. The social service undertaken by the Christians as a mission and with discipline is a model for others, he said acknowledging the service by the educational institutions in the city and particularly Fr Muller’s service to the society through hospital.
For the society to sustain, bridges that link people are the need of the hour and not walls that separate them, said Dr Someshwar adding the too much belief in religion, country or language will lead to negativity, thereby sowing the seeds of disturbance in communal harmony in the district as well as the country.
Joe Gonsalves, chairman of organizing committee of Aloysian Conclave welcomed all. Lona Gonsalves presented a devotional song at the beginning of the programme. Alumni N G Mohan, Santhosh Kumar Kadri, Allen Colaco, Austin D’Souza and Winston D’Souza introduced the guests.
