Udupi, Brahmavar, Jan 4: A well-planned action always yields desired results and it does captivate everyone involved in realizing it. This was quite true with Darbar, the maiden show organized by SEVA (Service Entertainment Vision Action) at Makkala Mantapa at Brahmavar near here on Saturday January 2 evening. The SEVA well-wishers and Konkani buffs who had gathered in large number at the Makkala Mantapa could not have asked for a better New Year gift than this on the very second day of 2010. The show, a delightful blend of melodious songs, enchanting dance and rib-tickling comedy kept the audience not only spellbound but glued to their seats to the end. It also left a broad smile on the faces of the founders of SEVA who organized the show.
It all began with the entry of fleeting feet of teen sensation Esther Noronha who presented the prayer dance. After SEVA founding member Gladson D'Almeida had given a short introduction on SEVA, www.brahmavara.com and Darbar, the much-anticipated show began with a salute to Mangalore through Konkan Kogul Wilfy's ever-green number 'Prannam Tuka Kartam' by none other than Vinay Lewis, the winner of first-ever Gulf Voice of Mangalore. It was for the first time that Vinay, a native of Kallianpur in the neighbourhood of Brahmavar had an opportunity to exhibit his enormous talent here. After this melodious number had provided the best possible start to Darbar, the show rose to a new level with Roshan Belman's super-duper solo number 'Dees Raath Moga' presented by melody queen Ivy D'Souza.
Maxim Pereira of Baila Boom and Manasa fame followed Ivy with his soulful rendering of 'Neel Gagan', a number composed by him for his newly-released music album Bhognnam. But it was local talent and crowd favourite Nelson Lewis who hogged the limelight in the first part with Greshan D'Souza penned number 'Angeline'. Nelson who has over the years proved not only as a versatile singer but also a crowd-puller again showed as why he is the best singer in the vicinity at present. The first part however could not have been complete without the delightful dance by renowned dance troupe Ocean Kids and local comedians Gosal-Monis with their short skit Dukor Marlo.
The show picked tempo as crowd thronged in huge number during the second part and with the second entry of Esther Noronha, this time with foot-tapping Goan number 'Nachoyam Kumpasar'. She enthralled the young and old, men and women with her superb presentation skills. It was indeed during the second part of the programme that audience were seen engrossed in savouring Darbar. The festive mood even seemed to have rubbed on the artistes as they raised the bar with several notches and ended presenting one of the memorable shows ever held in the vicinity. While Vinay continued his wonderful singing with numbers such as 'Tum Ye', and Hindi number 'Tum se', Ivy's 'Phantear Ravi Udetana' and Nelson's next number 'Tujea Galancher Tambsann Kaxi' were indeed captivating. Maxim Pereira also presented the number he is best known for, 'Manasa' much to the delight of the supportive audience. But it was teen sensation and enormously talented Esther Noronha who had crowd asking for more with dancing numbers 'Bebdo' and 'Maria Pitaxe'. She had the youngsters literally dancing to her tunes while the others were left spellbound by her precious talent. Never had a teenager carved a niche in the hearts of local audience in the manner Eshter did during the Darbar. The elegant dances by Ocean Kids and side-splitting comedy by Gosal-Monis duo was icing on the cake. The entire show was efficiently compered by the much-sought-after emcee of Konkan belt Vincentt Alva Pamboor with his inimitable style. His guest number 'Mog Tujho Kitlo Axelom' received with a thunderous applause by the audience.
The two duet numbers Kirak Mog Peracho by Nelson and Renita and Henry's Chandrem Udevn Ailo by Vinay and Ivy provided a romantic touch to the evening.
