Rahul Gandhi demands withdrawal of tax on petrol, diesel

New Delhi, May 6 (IANS): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has demanded withdrawal of taxes on petrol and diesel, a day after the Centre hiked taxes.

Rahul Gandhi tweeted "the people are suffering economically due to the coronovirus, inspite of reducing the price, the tax has been raised from Rs 10 to Rs 13 which is not a good decision and it should be withdrawn."

The Centre on Tuesday raised the excise duties on petrol and diesel by Rs 10 and Rs 13 per litre, respectively.

The total tax component (Centre and state in Delhi) is Rs 49.42 on petrol and Rs 48.09 on diesel. Compare this with the base price of the two products on Wednesday and the tax load becomes clearly visible. The base price of petrol currently is mere Rs 17.96 a litre and diesel just Rs 18.49 a litre.

On May 4 Delhi government raised VAT on petrol and diesel to 30 per cent of price, the state tax rate on the two products has risen to Rs 16.44 and Rs 16.26 per litre, respectively.

Together with central and state taxes, freight, and dealers' commission, petrol on Wednesday is priced at Rs 71.26 a litre in Delhi while diesel's current selling price stands at Rs 69.39 a litre.

Modi and the BJP have no ideas to improve the Indian economy. Higher petrol and diesel taxes will make Indian goods more expensive. How will Indian businesses compete with foreign business with lower costs of production? Good speeches cannot replace good ideas and good strategies.

No administrative experience by this Central government run by 2G. They have sidelined seniors and founding members of the party. Also they are not open to constructive criticism from opposition. Heavy reliance on whatapp and facebook social media supporters who do not have any feel of reality of life in Bharat.

RaGa, Every day you come out twice or thrice making a demand, bashing , lashing or mocking. You have interveiwed 2 Indians who have settled in Cushy foreign abodes and far from Indian reality. Clearly states that you are far removed from political reality. In India, poor far outnumber the middle class and rich. 95 percent of the poor, 45 percent of the middle class and 20 percent of the rich come out to vote. Now do the maths. If you want these guys to think about you, make yourself relevant first. All political parties care two hoots about armchair critics. Unless you or your party members get to the ground and do something your efforts are a futile and funny exercise.

For people like you doesn't make any difference but we have a house and families to look after. All those Indians have voted appropriately and given you a befitting response but it was your faulty EVMs have won you the elections. You will never ever part from EVMs even for reality check.

Bad workman blames his tool. Its something Cong leader give the chamchas to chew so the same loser contests again after 5 years. It is time for Congress to look within for the loss. More they do EVM-politics, more they are shooting themselves in the foot. EVM with VVPAT, which Congress & AAP were vociferously demanding, were used For Gujarat elections,. So as per Congress -EVMs are not safe EVMs with VVPAT are not safe either. So what is that will make them feel safe? You are not able to win that’s an effing your problem and not the problem in EVMs. Why not graciously accept your defeat and do some self study? A change from Sonia Gandhi to Rahul Gandhi cannot be termed as change. May be, you call it a change but that is not what country wants from INC. Voters have become truly mature and they are choosing mature leadership and immature Congress President is unable to digest the fact.

From their actions, it clearly looks like congress using the situation to hurt the Indian economy. I don't think BJP has to listen to this party as they don't even have numbers to form the opposition. Last week they were crying that NRI's were offered free flights why labours are charges for trains whereas it was just a another propaganda of congress to loot labours. This week when NRI's are asked to pay one-way charges for flights they are crying again that why to charge NRI's. Lol.. don't understand what they actually looking for. completely lost party.

This is problem because PM is not able to unite the country in the time of crisis like this. He is aloof and nobody knows what he is doing.

Leader is the one who unites the people at the time of crisis, listen to them and implement the best for the country. So far he is not announced any stimulus package or how he is going to take care of the weaker sections of the society. How he will provide the concessions to MSME to restart.

If he would have taken everybody in the loop then nobody would have opposed his decisions if it is good for the country. He needs to speak to the country with the blueprint of forward path. If he keeps quite then it only shows his nervousness.

He needs to call All political party meeting, discuss the economic condition and take suggestion for garner money in this situation. Then everybody will stop tweeting their suggestions.

Unite the country Prime Minister and take everybody along.

As on date 83% of the Indian population are with the PM and have the confidence in him. This includes even the opposition and minorities. What more unity you want.? The rest 17% are the ones who disobey prohibitory orders and create public nuisance. They are led by 'leaders' who have been ousted in their home constituencies and run away to safer places to win on minority votes. Lashing out, demanding , having edited and scripted videos with people who have settled abroad are just signs of desperation. Dont go any far, Look at you own home town Mangalore. Not even one Congi leader has come out to speak.

    Dear Avil Dev,

From where you got these figures? Is it from twitter accounts? Have you spoken to the weaker sections including migration workers and daily wage workers? Do you know their condition?

Why are you bringing minority, majority here? This is not called unity. Unity means 100% which includes the 17% you mentioned. You cannot keep anybody out.

Who cares if the videos scripted or not when WhatsApp is filled with all edited and fake material. What connection Mangalore has to do with this article. Read one more article "Most Indians feel helpless, disconnected at home during lockdown: Survey" PM needs to speak out and take all the people along. Understand the unity in true sense.

    Dear Rajesh,

Please read my comments carefully and what all I said is we have to be United to come out of the crisis. Winning or losing of elections are not important. We should win the battle against COVID-19 and the post economic distress. Have you seen any sentence about elections in my comment?

Why are you looking the present situation through the prism of election? Elections can be won without doing any work because there are different factors to it. Best example is Mangalore MP seat. With all these positive suggestions from Congress still it may lose the next election

Here all of us together have to win the bigger battle. Otherwise we will be finished.

"Demand" is a strong word for a decimated party leader who is in no position to demand. Rahul, make some positive suggestions on how to raise money when the government has to dish out doles for most of the COVID-19 lockdown victims. Release some money from your wealthy party, do not hoard it for next elections.

You have denounced India and proud of your Canada so you have humiliated India by you living in foreign country being a traitor. All Political Members like Ministers, M.P's / MLA's /MLC's not bothered to this hike in price because they are not paying from their pocket. They are using tax payers amount in the name of allowances. Henceforth all these people should use their own Vehicles and not of Govt. Vehicles. They have to drive on their Own and No drivers to drive the Vehicle

Government doesn't want Reliance to be affected by lowering the fuel price. Crude oil is $20/barrel and fuel price is Rs.70/L or above.
Let the lockdown open and all will enjoy the price hike for the daily consumables.
