Mangalore, Jan 9:
Police under assistant superintendent of police Amit Singh conducted a raid on Saturday January 9 and unearthed kerosene and diesel worth Rs 1.75 lac illegally stored near Gorigudda Ration Store, Valencia here under Mangalore South (Pandeshwar) police station limits.

The kerosene and diesel stored belongs to Alvin Mascarenhas, who is running a ration store in Gorigudda. The illegal storage was found in a building adjacent to the ration store. The fuel stored illegally in barrels and tanks included approximately 5,000 litres of kerosene and 1,000 litres of diesel.

The diesel was transported here through tanker drivers illegally through an understanding with the the owner of the ration store. The illegal diesel was used to mix with kerosene after changing its colour using cement and some wood, informed the police on the spot.

The diesel mixed with kerosene was sold at the ration store as white kerosene for a higher cost. The kerosene supplied at the store here too is illegal as the stock of kerosene was found to be more than the recommended supply by the department of food and civil supplies, added police.

Pandeshwar police have seized fuel-filled barrels, tanks and electric motors used to pump the fuel to tanks. The team under Pandeshwar police inspector Tilak Chandra and sub-inspector Ramakrishna are investigating the case.

Before the raid done on Allwyn mascarenhas's store illegal blue kerosene was available anywhere in Mangalore. Since two days there have been power cuts, I have a kersone oil generator costing Rs. 60000....which I had bought so that my children's study goes on uninterrupted.

I now have a need for kerosene for my generator, but its not available anywhere. I am sure may people share the same problem as me. I hence request daijiworld to kindly put an address or mention it in your news about where i can buy kerosene legally. Thanking you

This illegal business should be running since months or years. Such a dangerous business had not come to the notice of the police. This shows the Inefficiency of our police. I suppose the local people around this area were sleeping.
