Moodbidri, Jan 10: J M S Mani, senior artist was bestowed Alva’s Varna Virasat National Award at the valedictory ceremony of the Varna - Shilpa Virasat held here at Shobhavana here on Saturday January 9. The eight-day tryst of art lovers with the sculpture thus came to a spectacular end.

Speaking after receiving the award, Mani dedicated all his success to his teacher R M Harpad. It was my teacher who helped me hold my first art exhibition, he added. 











Art will survive only when capitalist and socialist thoughts go hand in hand, said Sri Bhattaraka Charukeerti Swamiji of Jain Mutt here. He applauded the efforts put in by Alva’s Education Foundation chairman Dr M Mohan Alva to organize such a noble programme and urged all to support him in the endeavour. 

Presiding over the ceremony, veteran litterateur Amruth Someshwar said that the gathering was like mini-India with conglomeration of artistes from over 15 states of the country. 

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Alva said that the programme is being organized as part of my social consciousness. I am just giving back to the society that has given me so much in life. Transforming students into good human beings is the main aim behind these cultural festivities, he added.

The artist who had assembled from various states of the country shared their experiences in the eight-day camp.   

About J M S Mani

Artiste Mani born in Bangalore is the student of well known artist R M Hadapad. Mani is the four-time recipient of Karnataka Lalitakala Academy Award, Rajyotsav Award. Once a student of Ken School of Arts, Bangalore he went on to become its professor.
