Lockdown day 51: No addition to corona tally in Dakshina Kannada, one death; no new cases in Udupi

Mangaluru/Udupi, May 14: It was a sad day for Dakshina Kannada (DK) as coronavirus claimed its fifth victim on Thursday, May 14. No corona-positive cases were reported in DK and Udupi. One patient who had cured was discharged in DK.

As reported earlier, the victim, a woman, identified by number P-507, was an 80-year-old resident of Kulshekar. She was admitted as an inpatient at First Neuro hospital at Padil where she had contracted coronavirus infection. She was tested positive on April 27.

The patient to be discharged on Thursday is a 30-year-old woman from Uppinangady. She had contracted the infection from her husband and was tested positive on April 18. She was discharged after her throat swab tests reports came negative.

In Dakshina Kannada, a total of 41,095 people have been screened so far, including 183 on Thursday. As many as 22 people are currently admitted in NIT-K Suratkal quarantine facility.

As many 6,073 people have completed 28 days of quarantine.

A total of 4,788 samples have been sent for tests so far, out of which reports of 4,536 tested negative, 34 positive, and 13 are currently active. As many as 16 persons have recovered and been discharged, and five deaths have occurred so far.

Out of the 34 positive cases, 28 patients are of Dakshina Kannada, one each from Bhatkal and Udupi, and four from Kerala.

Reports of 49 samples were received on Thursday which were all negative.

Reports of 252 samples are awaited. As many as 19 persons have been admitted for observation.

A total of 3,244 people have been treated at fever clinics so far. On Thursday, 12 cases of severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) were reported.

In Udupi district, a total of 2,997 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, including 59 on Thursday, and a total of 3,663 have completed 14 days of quarantine, including 35 on Thursday. As many as 677 persons are currently in home quarantine.

Altogether, 13 high-risk persons and two low-risk persons are under hospital quarantine. A total of 65 people are in isolation wards, including 12 fresh admissions on Thursday. Five among them have SARI and seven influenza-like illness.

As many as 476 people, including 11 on Thursday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.

A total of 1,831 samples have been collected so far, including 94 on Thursday. Out of them, 1,689 samples have turned out to be negative, and 139 reports are awaited. Three people who had tested positive earlier have all recovered and have been discharged from hospital.

As many as 10 people were tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday including four members of a family.
