Bengaluru, May 15: State chief secretary (CS) Vijay Bhaskar T M, has directed all the gram panchayats and local administrations to keep a close eye on people who had got stuck in other states entering the districts in Karnataka without informing the district administrations in advance. He said that as per the information received by the government, many have entered different districts by foot or on two-wheelers without any authorization.

Even though the police and coastal security police force have been keeping an eye on river banks and seashore, the government has information that many entered the state through these routes illegally. The CS has asked the administrations to keep vigil on these things and subject such people to compulsory quarantine.

The officials of local administration have to take up the task of identifying those who entered the state illegally. The workforce of gram panchayats have special responsibility of providing information about such people to the chief executive officers of the respective zilla panchayats. In the case of urban centres, the responsibility of finding out such people rests with the chief officer and commissioner of the local bodies. They need to provide information to the project director or urban development cell.

Every border district of Karnataka has centres to record movement of people leaving and entering the state. Roads other than authorized exit and entry points remain closed. Forest and excise department officials are involved with the task of checking such movement.

Those coming into state from other states have to register themselves through 'Seva Sindhiu' portal and top priority is being given to people like those requiring urgent travel on account of death or other emergencies, pregnant ladies, people needing medical attention, tourists got stuck here, students, etc. Those who are suspected to have infection during health check at the border are sent to hospital concerned or to 14-day quarantine being run by district administrations.
