Chandigarh, May 15 (IANS): Amid the lockdown, the police in Haryana have seized 792 kg of narcotic substance, 73,251 bottles of liquor and 37,363 litre of 'lahan' (a raw material used for producing illicit liquor) by arresting 840 people from Ambala, Karnal and Gurugram ranges.
Director General of Police (DGP), Manoj Yadava, said on Friday that 746 cases have been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
"In addition to effective enforcement of the lockdown, we have also launched a crackdown with highly visible police patrolling to make sure that all kinds of criminal elements don't take advantage of the trying times in any manner," he said in a statement.
Taking action against the bootleggers in the Karnal range, he said 13,331 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and country-made liquor, 2,473 bottles of illicit liquor, 413 bottles of beer and 35,290 litre of 'lahan' were seized.
The police have also seized 32,188 bottles of IMFL and country-made liquor, 218 bottles of beer, 65 bottles of illicit liquor and 2,073 litre of 'lahan' from the Ambala range, while 24,563 bottles of liquor were seized from the Gurugram district.
