"Geniuses": Rahul mocks Niti Aayog over zero COVID case prediction

New Delhi, May 15 (IANS): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday took pot shots at the Niti Aayog and the Centre over one of its predictions that there would be no fresh cases of coronavirus infection in India from May 16.

"The geniuses at Niti Aayog have done it again. I'd like to remind you of their graph predicting the government's national lockdown strategy would ensure no fresh COVID-19 cases from tomorrow, May 16," the former Congress President tweeted.

According to the graph attached to the post by Gandhi, COVID-19 cases in India saw a sudden spike from April 2, that peaked on April 18. The graph was predicted to descend from April 24 and a complete dip on May 16 -- suggesting zero cases.

Last month, during a press conference, Gandhi had said: "In no way does a lockdown defeat the virus. It helps only to pause the virus for a short while. The only way to do this is to increase testing and chasing the virus, and going beyond, and this is my advice to the government -- use testing."

As of Friday, India has 51,401 active coronavirus cases.

The lockdown, enforced on March 25, was originally supposed to end on April 14. It was then extended to May 3, and then again to May 17.

Mr Gandhi's knows how to predict far better.

At the time of Namaste Trump he had correctly predicted how India was going to face a grave calamity.

But Niti Ayog possibly did not figure out what Mr Gandhi was talking about.

The only way to defeat the virus is to increase testing and chasing the virus, and going beyond. What does it mean...If lockdown can't defeat the virus then how can the testing...Some one please tell him what is testing... He may have thought it as some kind of treatment...

SK Mangalore, sometimes we need to get "education" to understand few things and unfortunately that doesn't come by going to "Shakha" but you have to go to University. Just by lockdown, clapping and banging plates, shouting "go Corona go' and by showering flowers from above, you can't defeat Corona.
You test and isolate for those who tested positive and their physical contacts.
Find out what was the testing rate until the same Congress leaders were demanding increased testing.
Do you have anything to say about the Zero cases that Niti yog predicted as well??
Do I need to remind that it is the government's duty to support citizens with financial package immediately when forcing the lock-down, not waiting until opposition parties demanding for the rescue pack??

Sri_elder, I wonder why these officers paid so much if they predict like me and you.
Yes it is prediction but on what basis this prediction is made that on the day the lock down ends, there will be no virus. is there any research or medical evidence to predict this?
