Bengaluru: Government formulates safety guidelines for schools to ensure social distancing

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, May 16: On the issue of advance preparations for the academic year 2020- 21, a meeting of departmental officials presided over by the commissioner was held on Friday, May 15.

After holding discussions with officials, the director (examinations) of Karnataka Education Examination Board has come up with the following proposals to maintain social distance.

Arrangements need to be made to accommodate three students per desk. If shortage of classrooms is experienced, library rooms, sports, room, computer room etc should be used. Even community halls, government buildings and Anganwadi rooms which will be vacant in the afternoon, can be used. In primary schools where student strength is less, shift system need not be followed. If in spite of above measures, there is shortage of rooms, shift system can be followed.

Under Nali-Kali system, first and second standard students can be merged together. If there is shortage of teachers for first to seventh standards, guest lecturers can be locally appointed. As graduate teachers are normally available in several schools, they can share teaching work after mutual consultation. In case of shortage of staff in high school section shift system can be adopted.

The first shift is divided into prayer (7.50 to 8.00), first period (8 to 8.40), second period (8.40 to 9.20), recess (9.20 to 9.40), third period (9.40 to 10.20), fourth period (10.20 to 11), fifth period (11 to 11.40), and sixth period (11.40 to 12.20).

The second shift is divided into prayer (12.10 to 12.40), first period (12.30 to 1.10), second period (1.10 to 1.50), recess (1.50 to 2.20), third period (2.20 to 3.00), fourth period (3.00 to 3.40), fifth period (3.40 to 4.20), and sixth period (4.20 to 5.00).

A recommendation has been made to leave it to the discretion of district administration or zilla panchayat to fix timing of rural schools for morning session as students coming from far off villages may be deprived of breakfast. When transport system is in place in case of private schools, social distance should be maintained in vehicles. During prayers, students should wear masks and maintain social distance.

The students should be educated to maintain hygiene by washing hands before and after school with soap, after use of toilet, and maintain social distance during play.

Is there such a hurry to open schools ? Have they consulted the most important “stake holder” - parents. It is necessary that some opinion should be taken from them as well before deciding on the reopening of schools.

Maintaining distance, washing hands on time is highly not possible for kids as elder people are not maintaining the same. its better not to open School after situation comes under control..Lets parents too take responsibilty by teaching their children daily base. opening school in June for especially children below 10-12 years is not at all good decision for govt. as immune system was not upto the level to resist with the various virus diseases.

Yes Sahil, children are nation's property. If classrooms are not sufficient, so called rule says library rooms, computer rooms, sports room etc to be used for the sitting purpose. Tell me how teacher/lecturer can deliver the class?

Children in other rooms will not be able to see teacher's face. Children are not coming from one house.. they come from different houses, different areas, different surroundings, different mode of transport. If anything happens to some of the children... (god forbid 🙏) along with the burden of school/college fees... One more burden of hospital bills....in this critical condition. As Mr. Kamath said police could not control adults on the road, how children can be controlled. Every child is unique....

Once the fees are taken, it's not refunded back under any situation... Then, why such a hurry for the concerned authorities... Promote the child. Concentrate on C E T can conduct exams for students based on their whole years progress till preparatory... with social distancing in batches... and not the school/colleges.

Seems like those who are taking decision doesn't have school going kids, How we can risk our children life in school? how do they maintain social distancing in school buses? normally school buses are over crowded. If in case school authority allow social distancing in the bus it means they are going to charge double the price of transportation.

How much middle class family can afford? , Hike in Electricity bill, Job loss, business loss,

Can we wait until Corona Virus completely under control? School kids more likely having chances to get infected.

for time being every school can make online classes or distribute study materials and videos so that kids can learn and study at home. After all precaution is better than cure.

My humble request to all got and private institutes not to open Scholes. Please don't rush. We can definitely wait till Sept. Reduce lessons and plan for Sept to April depending on the situation later. Till then on line classes can be tried as most of the people have smart phone now a days. Please don't open schools.

When lockdown is lifted .WHO and Government need to tell people that they should use their brain and think too, before they act. So, maintain social distancing and wash your hands frequently with soap and water for no less than 20 seconds, until the WHO lifts the global emergency. And above all, do not share conspiracy theories on social media, because every single share makes it difficult for health workers and other people working at the front to contain the situation. Be responsible and stay safe.

Just a note - many people in India hate the WHO because it is seen to be chummy with China, which has been hiding details of the virus from the start.
