Mangaluru: Corona management – MLA Khader turns ire on district administration

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, May 16: MLA and former minister U T Khader, addressing the media here on Saturday, May 16, expressed anger at the lackadaisical handling of coronavirus pandemic by the district administration.

He asked the state government and district administration to consider with all seriousness the fact that Dakshina Kannada district has witnessed five corona-related deaths. He expressed surprise at the fact that there are patients who die within a matter of three days since being diagnosed as coronavirus positive. "Does the district administration think that lives of people have no value? It should not take these things lightly. The health department should investigate the causes for these deaths. When an infected person dies, the disease spreads to 150 people as per a study," he remarked.

Khader expressed anger at the failure of the concerned to reach to the root cause of spread of infection in the district. He said that there is no clarity with the district administration on any issue. He asserted that distribution of kits will not drive away viruses and blamed the district administration for its failure to regulate the spread of the virus.

Referring to the issue of Rs 20 lac crore rupees package announced by the central government to boost the economy, Khader remarked that just like other countries, India too has announced a package. "The government has increased the quantum of loans to farmers but did not waive interest. The Prime Minister had said that a sum of Rs 15 lac would be credited to individual accounts. Now he can credit at least Rs 15,000 to the accounts and keep his word," he said.

The MLA observed that the state government has not announced any new schemes, and that the chief minister had just repeated the announcement he had made earlier for fishermen and weavers. He said that Mangaluru airport has been overlooked in the implementation of 'Vande Bharat Mission'. "Kannur airport in Kerala is getting many flights. Here, only one flight arrived, that too because of the interest taken by union minister D V Sadananda Gowda," he remarked.

Khader regretted the fact that no flights are coming from other countries to Mangaluru and criticized Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, of being busy sitting at a place and distributing kits. He said that an MP is doing a work that is expected from a corporator. He said that the MP is directly responsible for such a few flights arriving in Mangaluru.

Khadar sir, five deaths in D.K is not at all good news. By blaming administration problem won't be solved. Instead it would be better to give your valuable suggestion to the administration and our other politicians, so that corona treatment could be done more effectively. I'm sure our district in-charge minister will surely listen to your advice as you are experienced politician. More deaths in any district will bring bad name to the hospital , administration and to the politicians. So forget political barriers n build an effective team to fight against corona war.

Sir,, do not may such irrelevant comments at this point. Due to such absurd moves, The Congress has fallen flat in Mlore with no signs for revival. Cong veterans have been booted out and sent home packing and currently helping their wives in the kitchen.
Like RaGa you have a safe constituency inn Ullala due to obvious or same reasons, but not others.

Malaria too has a high mortality if one gets cerebral malaria, this has also developed drug resistance!
Similarly, dengue hemorhagic fever is very dangerous both transmitted by mosquitoes; & both are endemic to Mangalore & surrounding areas resurfacing their head every year; earlier there was Polaris which is seldom seen nowadays!

So, we cannot underestimate malaria & dengue....

I did not expect this statement by Mr. UT Khader. I assumed that he is well-read. He was one of the best health ministers we ever had. However, he must understand that the five persons with COVID-19 whom we lost were already having severe co-morbid conditions and most of them belonged to the elderly age group of 60 years and above.

Yes, every life is precious and it is extremely sad that we lost them. But it is a known fact that people with co-morbid conditions like diabetes, hypertension, stroke, respiratory diseases, cancer etc are known to be at a high risk for death due to COVID-19. Mr. Khader should study these things before passing judgement. By blaming the District Administration, he is belittling the tremendous efforts put in by the health care workers at the designated COVID hospital of Dakshina Kannada district. I hope better sense prevails and these elected representatives refrain from making irresponsible comments.

Every year in Mangalore during Monsoons we have more than 3,000 cases of Malaria but we have no lockdown to fight this disease. What is shocking that for COVID19 we had 3 lockdowns. We fight tooth and nail to fight covid but malaria we allow it go. Here we are fighting Covid that spreads through air and in monsoons we fight malaria that breeds from water. What sort of fight is this causing pain and agony to people.

Malaria has a vaccination , medicine and curable, COVID19 as on date does not have any of these. So currently mixture of 2-3 medicines are given and rest is left to the immunity of the affected. Thats why the panic. The only solution now is serious lockdowns like they had in China. The law and the cops ensured there was 100% lock down in China. Buildings were sealed from outside and some cases even welded to ensure no one stepped outside. Only gun weilding cops delivered basic essentials. This went on for 76days, thats why they reaped the benefits. Unfortunately in India we are born to be corrupt and want to flout to rules and play politics.
