How Does Indian Society View Online Gaming in Contemporary Society?

May 20: Over the last few years, numerous aspects of the gaming sector have reached new, unprecedented heights in India. Many factors can be attributed to such growth, including the changing attitudes of the country’s people in relation to the sector’s potential. So, how does Indian society now view online gaming?

Acceptance of Emerging Markets and Increased Visibility

Primarily, Indian society’s new-found intrigue in the many avenues of gaming has resulted in the rapid growth of the online casino industry, which has become far more prominent in recent times. According to a report by India West, the various iGaming activities that have become digitally available following the rise of digitalization, have yielded the highest numbers of players, as well as the biggest revenues - which showcases the market's heightened visibility.

In turn, such acceptance for emerging markets showcases the evolving views of Indian people in relation to online gaming. Fundamentally, the ever-growing nature of the South Asian country’s online casino industry is evident across many modern-day gaming platforms, such as Genesis Casino. The online casino in India has, by its own admission, been there since the very beginning. That said, in recent years, the platform has raised the bar by embracing a wide array of varied games, such as traditional titles, including baccarat, blackjack, and poker, along with graphically-enhanced video slots.

While online casinos have become more accepted throughout Indian society, the country has also emerged as one of the leading players in eSports, according to an article by Entrepreneur India. This competitive approach to gaming has proved immensely beneficial to the world’s second-most populous country. Although, in years gone by, the outlook of eSports in India has been somewhat unstructured, the sector’s evolution has resulted in it becoming more organized. Fundamentally, such growth has enabled for gaming-related expansions to occur, such as Fnatic’s Indian gaming facility.

Platform Diversity Has Proved Beneficial to Sector Growth

It’s a testament to the contemporary view of online gaming throughout Indian society that, in 2018, the sector generated total revenues of approximately $581 million. Aside from traditional console and desktop approaches, the South Asian country’s love of mobile gaming has been at the very core of growing the industry’s appeal. At the time of writing, and as per Swarajya Mag, India have emerged as a top-five market for smartphone gaming, with around 89 per cent of the country’s game-related revenues coming through mobile titles.

Importantly, there are many reasons why remote gaming devices have proved to be a success throughout India, with smartphones, for example, providing heightened accessibility and convenience in comparison to a standard console.

Moreover, Indian society have been open to accepting the intertwining of eSports and mobile gaming. Fnatic’s expansion into India wasn’t purely to expand the reach of their brand, but also to strengthen their grip on the eSports world, after they acquired a mobile PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds team in India. Such a move seeks to combine two of the most populated markets in India, with competitive and remote gaming merging as one.

Progression Has resulted in Acceptance

Ultimately, it’s clear to see that online gaming is now viewed more positively by Indian society in the modern era. This is evident to see within the expansion of world-renowned global brands into the country, as well as the continued developments made to the country’s iGaming scene. In turn, because of a change in attitudes, there’s no reason that India can’t maintain their status as one of the world’s most influential players in the global gaming industry over the coming years.
