Udupi, May 25: In more worry for Udupi district, 16 more cases were reported on the evening of Monday May 25, taking the day's total to 32.

Earlier in the noon, the authorities had confirmed 16 positive cases, all of them with travel history to Maharashtra or UAE.

Now, another 16 have tested positive for the virus. This includes a 57-year-old male ASI of the district armed reserve (DAR) force.

Altogether, among the 32, thirteen have travel history to Maharashtra.

With this, the number of cases in Udupi has risen to 108.

Udupi/Mangaluru May 25: Coronavirus cases in Udupi district saw a sharp rise on Monday May 25 with as many as 16 fresh cases reported.

All of them are patients with travel history to either Mumbai or UAE. While 14 came from Mumbai, two returned recently from Dubai.

The patients include eight children - six girls aged between 3 and 11 years, and two boys aged four and five years. The others are two men aged 34 and 45, and six women aged 30, 72, 33, 67, 47 and 21 years. Among these, women aged 47 and 21 arrived from Dubai, while the rest came from Mumbai.

With this, the total number of coronavirus cases in Udupi district has risen to 92, almost all of them returnees from Maharashtra and UAE.

Dakshina Kannada reported three new cases. All of them are males, aged 30, 25 and 55. The 30-year-old and the 55-year-old men returned from Pune and Dombivili in Thane, Mumbai on May 18, while the 25-year-old came from Kurla, Mumbai on May 20. 

All the three have been admitted to Wenlock hospital.

With this, the total number of cases so far in DK has risen to 69, out of which 37 are active.

In Karnataka, a total of 69 cases were reported on Monday, taking the tally to 2,158.

    There is no doubt the virus is infecting many in quarantine institution of Udupi. I remember when I was watching Daijiworld telephonic interview of the passengers of first flight from Dubai one lady clearly mentioned after all the passengers reaching Udupi from airport DC arranged a meeting told them if you want to go to hotel on your own cost we will inform the hotel representative and they will guide you or we will give you place. It is a hall only we provide a mat, there is no cot and common toilet facility. Now one can understand what type of quarantine facility must have given by the administration. Also we cannot blame the administration as it is not so easy to manage such a big crowd with all good facility for 14 days. In first week of March many foreign returnees are given home quarantine. Only one or two mis used this facility. That time the Law also was not so strict. Now the Law is very strict. (The law says deliberately infecting others is attempt to murder) I feel the govt should think of compulsory home quarantine for all by strict under taking from the passenger.

    Why not swab test mandatory, if you really want to accept migrants. One swab test at right time can save further 30-40 tests along with additional burdon of quarantine management.. dont know why only few states are following and others just increasing load on infrastructure by isolation.
    Make it paid test.. but do it.

    The reason being when to test too soon testing will only result is negative. So they should be institutional quarentined and then tested periodically before releasing into the society. As for quarentine institute if the govt couldn't contain the infection then what where they doing for the last 2 months and not creating sufficient comfortable, isolation units before starting the travel's between everywhere ... This is sheer irresponsibility of the govt.

    Bowing to pressure from opposition ,various parties ,industries, Government allowed interstate migration. Sad to see green zones turning red now..
    It's better to impose strict lockdown on highly infected states atleast. Than making all other states suffer.
    China was able to restrict the disease to just wuhan by imposing strict lockdown... while other states kept d economy alive.

    People who have Aadhar cards address which are registered to other states should not be allowed to travel. Only people who are residents of a particular district and were stuck elsewhere during Lockdown should be allowed to come back to their respective homes.

    I can now imagine how bad the situation might be in Mumbai if so many people are testing positive who returned from there. Sad that udupi has become red zone inching towards 100 cases.
