IOA President directs senior VP to take over all legal cases

New Delhi, May 26 (IANS): Indian Olympic Association President Narinder Batra on Tuesday directed Senior Vice President R.K. Anand to take over all legal cases of the IOA as the Chairman of the Legal Committee.

"All old IOA legal cases which are being handled at present will be discussed and brought under your control within three months by the IOA office and IOA appointed lawyers and all further discussions in the future will be taken by Chair of the Legal Committee in discussion with President/Secretary General," said Batra in a letter addressed to Anand.

Secretary General Rajeev Mehta remains convenor of the IOA's Legal Committee which was reconstituted last week for 2020-21.

Earlier, Mehta had said in his letter to all National Sports Federations, state Olympic associations and the IOA Executive Council that an inquiry will be undertaken by legal commission on Batra "dissolving" the IOA Ethics Commission on May 19.

"An inquiry on the matter is undertaken by the Chairman of the IOA Legal Commissions. Issues regarding the Commission/Committees would be discussed in the next meeting of the Executive Council of the IOA," Mehta pointed.

The IOA also appointed Vice President and BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Mittal as the head of its Sponsorship, Marketing and Broadcast Committee. The committee includes Athletics Federation of India President Adille J Sumariwalla and IOA Secretary General Rajeev Mehta.
