Mangaluru: 'Seven-day institutional quarantine for people coming into district' - DC

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (AM)

Mangaluru, May 30: Deputy commissioner (DC) Sindhu B Rupesh said that there will be a seven-day institutional quarantine period for people coming into the district. She also asked people not to worry about coronavirus and reveal right information when asked by concerned authorities.

Speaking exclusively to Daijiworld, the DC gave some vital information to the people of the district. Responding to a query on the changed rules for quarantine and if test will be done in seven days as used to 14 days earlier, she said, “Till now, swab samples used to be collected on the 12th day and we would get the report on the 14th day. According to new rule of seven days of institutional quarantine and seven days of home quarantine, after 7 days, a medical team will visit the institution and check the inmates. They will decide who should be sent for home quarantine and who should not be, taking into consideration some vital points.

DC Sindhu B Rupesh

“Basically, after 14 days, there will be another 14 days which is the reporting period, where we will be calling up people on their phones to enquire about their health. We request all people to cooperate and not fear,” she said.

On coronavirus testing in the district, she said, “We have taken swab samples of majority of people. Only some are pending which will be competed soon. We will follow the government’s order on allowing people from high risk states inside the district.”

On a query regarding places of quarantine, she said, “We have identified places and everything is ready. We can admit over 12,000 people. Hotels and hostels for international and domestic fliers is also ready.”

In a message to the district, the DC said, “Recovery rate in our country is good in comparison to other countries. We should stay positive in these times. Recent trend shows that who have health issues are also getting better and being discharged. A 60-year-old positive tested person with heart ailment got cured and was discharged two days ago. We have to take positives from this. Maintain personal hygiene and protect those with less immunity. Follow social distancing and cleanliness. When any concerned authorities ask you information, please reveal whatever you know. Do not fear and stay positive.”

It's very sad to write that neither government nor the officials having any idea or knowledge about quarantine.just learn from Kerala here institutional quarantine is compulsory only those who are reporting from foreign.for any other states only strict home quarantine and health and police checking properly if any body violates home quarantine then only institutional quarantine required.and with much facility also.suppose if majority person s in an institutional quarantine having no Corona and a single patient is there then it will spread much.

To whom is this rule please specify. Karntatka govt says inter state travelling no quarantine. Now you are saying something else.
    It is total confusion.

Earlier railway tickets were made available. Tickets were booked.
Now i am told I have to pay 3 time the charge of my ticket i.e Rs. 650 for covid test.
it is really swindling. They should have told before booking that we have to pay for covid test.

Unplanned implementation of lockdown causing chaos and pain.
Both central and state Govts has no clue what exactly to do. They keep changing their notifications every 24 hours without giving clear guidelines and putting every one under confusion.

    Dear Sir/Madam,
I am working in a service industry (Public Sector - Govt. of India) and I am liable to be transferred anywhere in India. For the purpose of education, I have not shifted my family from Mangalore. Now, I am in Chennai. This is an unprecedented situation. My request with the authorities is please allow people like us to go for home quarantine only. Because, after spending a few days with family, we have to go back to our work place. With these quarantine restrictions, how we can visit our place and take care of family members?? I request for a sympathetic consideration of this issue and relaxation of rules for people like us.

In closed places the virus transmission is more easy unlike well ventilated and bright places!
I wonder whether our quarantine centres are made to certain uniform specifications with regards to free ventilation & bright natural light so cross infection doesn't happen! Is not a random safety audit necessary of these centres??

I didn't understand placing special restrictions on the entire state. Maharashtra is big state with so many distinct.

In Maharashtra highest numbet of cases are originated from Mumbai. Some one who is traveling from the other part of the state is subjected same rule of strict quarantine.

But some of other states has less number of cases in total but a particular districts has maximum number of cases. The traveler from these districts is given option of home quarantine and let out even without testing.

I think govt need to devise restrictions on district wise or depend on red zone.
