Kuwait: Canonical Erection of St Daniel Parish at Al-Shuyoukh

Kuwait, Jan 29: The canonical erection of St Daniel Comboni parish, Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh here was held on Friday January 29 by reading of decree by vicar general Fr Mathew and bishop Camillo Ballin.
Bishop Ballin also engraved the board which symbolizes the opening of new parish. As part of the event, Fr Albert Saveriraj was installed as the first parish priest.
After offering holy mass, a small felicitation function was arranged that started with formal welcome by Margaret. Bishop Ballin, vicar general Fr Mathew and other priests were honoured with flower bouquets. A short biography of St Daniel Comboni was released by bishop Ballin.
Lawrence gave a brief introduction of parish and Comboni mission. Gladys and group sung a song composed specially for the occasion. Bishop Ballin along with other priests cut the cake to mark the occasion.
Bishop Ballin and parish priest Fr Albert gave a short message to the gathered. The programme ended with the vote of thanks by P L Joserph.
On 24th September 2008, Missionary Saint Daniel Comboni was proclaimed the patron of the mission centre in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh (Abbassiya). Three priests Fr Albert, Fr George and Fr Joseph were residing at the centre to serve the needs of the Catholic faithful living in Abbassiya which is also known as mini Kerala due to the large number of south Indians (Mangaloreans and Keralites). With the erection of new parish, Kuwait has four parishes in total- Cathedral, Ahmedi, Salmiya and Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh (Abbassiya).
