Panaji, Jun 2: The IMD forecast has issued a cyclone alert for north Maharashtra and south Gujarat coasts owing to depression over east-central and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea. However, the impact of the phenomenon will not be witnessed over Goa. It will only prevail at the end of north Goa and south Maharashtra region, IMD asserted.
“The cyclone will pass over the east-central Arabian Sea about 200-300 km away from Goa’s coast. On the sea, the wind speed could be 60-70 kmph, but on land, it could reach a maximum of 55-60 kmph,” IMD scientist, Rahul M said.
As per the forecast, the only impact from the cyclone felt in Goa will be in the form of heavy rainfall and gusty wind.
The IMD also warned fishermen to not venture into the sea until June 4 along the Maharashtra-Goa coast.
A possibility of a high wave has been also issued by INCOIS from 5.30 pm since May 31 to 11.30 pm on June 2 along the coast of Goa from Vengurla to Vasco.
