I Don't Mind Meeting Bal Thackeray, says Shah Rukh

Mumbai, Feb 6 (IANS) Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, under fire from the Shiv Sena for favouring Pakistani players in the Indian Premier League (IPL), said Saturday he had been misunderstood and he had nothing against meeting Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray.

After being defiant for days, Shah Rukh made the conciliatory remarks -- "If he (Bal Thackeray) wants me to meet him, I will do that" -- when he returned from London and was mobbed at the airport by the media seeking his reaction to the Shiv Sena's tirade against him.

The Shiv Sena has threatened to ban his upcoming release, "My Name Is Khan", in Mumbai theatres for his remarks and sought an apology from him. Posters and banners of the movie have been torn.

"I have been misunderstood. Let's talk it out. I haven't said anything wrong. I have said what every Indian would have. Today what I am is because of Mumbai. Mumbai has given me everything, my nation has given me everything," Shah Rukh said at the airport.

"How can I belong to any other nation?," he added.

Asked if he would go and meet Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray over the issue, Shah Rukh said: "I enjoy Bala Saheb-ji's company. He is a senior leader. I have been at his place many times, and if he wants me to meet him, I will do that."

Earlier, Shah Rukh and Kajol came out of the airport separately. Shah Rukh was accompanied by a posse of police personnel and his own private guards, an airport official said.

The duo had gone to the US and Britain for the pre-release promotion of Karan Johar's "My Name Is Khan".

Some 500 security personnel, besides nearly 50 of Shah Rukh's private guards, were at the airport. Director Johar left the airport separately.

Shah Rukh's vehicle was accompanied by two police vehicles from the airport to his bungalow 'Mannat,' facing the Arabian Sea in Bandra West - a distance of around 12 km.

The Maharashtra government and the Mumbai Police have promised to provide full security to theatres and multiplexes where "My Name Is Khan" would be screened.

Shah Rukh owns the Kolkata Knight Riders team of IPL.

Instead of blaming Bal Thakre, Shahrukh Khan et.al., we must blame the whole political system. One has to get political mileage and the other business. Shivsena per se, never asked its cadres to attack Shahrukh or stop the screening of his film. But it gave indications to its cadres to do so. Same thing happens in Kerala for example every week.

There will be a call for Hartal (as bandh is banned by the court) and people close the shop out of fear rather than solidarity with the cause. It is time the higher judiciary and utive authorities comes up with a comprehensive national policy about curbing this kind of misuse of democracy. I support the same if it is called POTA!

DAR GAYA BAAZIGAR. This is all about money. IPL is money involved. Film is too. Please think before speak rather than doing so.

Though I am not a big fan of Mr. Bal , these bollywood actors make statement to get some sympathy from neighboring country to get some popularity. If they are real Indians they should give statement during kargil war as well. They don’t speak word about Kashmir but call them as Indians. Let SRK say Kashmir is integral part of India, he will never say.

Where money is involved nothing matters. Shah Rukh is just another actor-turned businessman. He needs Thackeray and Thakeray needs him.

Mr. Khan, you are trying to be courteous and to settle the matter peacefully, but please stay where you are. If you meet them for any reason, they will be winning the battle. Siva Sena and a bunch of such smoke screen actors are going see the reality of their fake influence and power soon. In this tug of war, the truth will prevail.

I agree with Mr.Batrekere. These street-smarts with the help of their goons, force the film producers/actors, because they are the soft targets, to come and fall to their feet with a 'suitcase' for the so called compromise !

Its very pathetic and disappoiting that SRK or for that reason any other personality, compromise the basic principles of democracy and freedom out of fear from these street dogs. If any famous personality like Rahul Gandhi, defy the threat, no one in the future would dare to issue threats.

The film lovers would have taught THackerys a lesson with the frustration of waiting to see his movie. What SRK did is politics of convenience. First say something to get mileage and then say something to apologise and get sympathy.

I have a lurking suspicion that all the schoomzing could be due to the vested interest of esnuring Shiv does not play a spoilt sport in the next SRK film, My name is Khan. I am fan of SRK and would hate if it were to happen. By the way who is paying for all the police protection. Its unfair that the taxpayer should bear the brent whilst our heroes can roam the ramp at their will.
