Lucknow, Jun 14 (IANS): UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's ration kits that were distributed to migrant workers and the homeless during the lockdown period, have proved to be extremely popular.

According to a government spokesman, the ration kits have been such a hit that several states have sought to know their contents.

"The Chief Minister personally decided on what should go into each kit which was a complete kitchen in itself. He had seen the distribution of relief kits during the floods in 2017 and knew exactly what was needed in times of crisis," said the spokesman.

Each kit, prepared by the Revenue Department, included 10 kilograms of rice and flour, two kilograms of arhar dal, five kilograms potatoes, one litre oil, and 250 grams of spices including coriander power, chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt and two kilograms of roasted gram.

Till date, 35 lakh migrant workers have been given ration kits along with Rs 1,000 each.

"Those who were quarantined, were later given these kits when they left for their homes," the spokesman said.

The state government also gave advance pension to senior citizens, 'divyangs' and destitute women.

Over six crore people have been provided food by government-run community kitchens and 43 lakh workers have been provided employment under MGNREGA.
