Mangalore: Born in Six Months, Baby Boy Braving it all for Life

Mangalore: Born in Six Months, Baby Boy Braving it all for Life

Mangalore, Feb 12:
In a rare case in the medical history, a boy child born in 24th week of gestation on November 26, 2009 is surviving all odds and doing well at the diligent care of doctors at the Mangala Hospital here. The joy of Kairunisa, the mother of what can be called a miracle baby cannot be explained, but only experienced on witnessing her smile.

Dr Murali Keshava, paediatrician and neo-natalogist who lead the team of doctors in this case said Kairunisa of Jokatte near Mangalore delivered premature twin baby at NICU of the hospital. The weight of the first baby was one kg, while of the other 525 grams. The first baby lost life’s battle succumbing to severe infection after a month.

However, the mere 525 gms baby, which is kept in open care warmer has responded well from the last 77 days. What more little bundle of joy has gained another 400 grams.

According to Dr Murali the survival ratio of premature baby born in India is very low. They can suffer from problems such as breathing difficulty, severe infections, bleeding in the brain, ulcers in the intestines, infections of skin, jaundice and deafness such others. However, this baby though was of palms size was totally on parental nutrition and required only minimal respiratory support and medications, he said.

Further, most babies overpowered by nature rarely make it cradles, but this baby has amazed us so far battling all the complications, he points out.

As rightly said all the above readers, its a miracle and we should thank God for his blessings on such babies. As I recall my memories towards my Son , who born in 24 weeks weighing 660 grams kept in incubator for 3 months here in Dubai. Today he is 5 years old and is perfectly fine. I would like to ask the parents to have faith in God, patience and courage. Surely the baby would be fine and create a histroy. I would like to congratulate the doctors for taking this great responsibility and making this happen.

My niece was born in Saudi Arabia in 22nd week of gestation due to high blood pressure of her mother, weighed only 520 grams. It was a miracle and she fought all the odds and been mystery to her doctors, even doctors told her father may be they have to do amputation on her one leg due to the blood clot, but by the grace of Almighty next day she started to move her legs. The baby is now studying in 1st standard in Indian International School in Dammam, even though, now she is prone to allergies had battled bravely against all the complications, now she is 5 years old bubbly , sweet and cheery cute little girl like any other girls of her age.
